A young mischievous boy called Max decides to seek out fun and dons his white wolf suit, but as a result of his ill behaviour gets sent to bed without supper. When in his room, it is unclear whether it his imagination, a dream or magic that send Max into adventure, but whatever the cause, a whole world grows from inside his bedroom, sending the young boy into the land of Where the Wild Things Are...
The pictures are unique and absolutely luscious; the text is simple but so very clever and the package as a whole is timeless. Everything about this book is awe-inspiring and memorable, so there is little reason to think that any child from Reception to Year 2 would not enjoy it and can easily lend itself to discussion and analysis ... This is such a fun story. I have even used it on a teddy bear's picnic, getting the children to act out each part eventually finding a rather large teddy bear. Children of all ages love it.

We bought this book because somebody has recommened it to me but I thought it would be to old for my daughter, 7months when we bought it. She LOVES it. I could read to her all day and am sure it will be a fav for many years.

It is winter and it is snowing. All through the evening, Percy gets knocks from various different animals and they all want to share the bed. The problem is the bed is too small for them all. How will all of the animals and Percy get through the night? Find out in this book... I really, really, really like Percy the Park Keeper adventures (and have got four of the books) and would definitely and positively rate this book 8/ 10. I would absolutely strongly recommend it to everyone who likes Percy the Parker as well! Nick Butterworth has done a great job with all of the books - so I look forward to read and review other of his books!

I used this book along with animal tales to make the unit of 'Jesus' more accessible to children in a yr 1 class where religion is not a feature in the majority of their lives.
The humourous writing engaged the children, and the language was basic enough for the children to understand. I had them acting out several of the stories, which they loved! some children even chose to look at the books during free play and i have recommended the purchase of both books to the RE coordinator.

Well recommended book. Very good descriptive, rhythmic verses. Easy to read and engage children with. Fun family outdoor adventure! Children can sing-a-long too!

The Shopping Basket is a well written, humourous and intelligently written book, that a child can't help but return to time and time again to read with amusement awe and admiration for a fellow peer.

Simple yet deeply poignant book which follows in Anthony Brownes' ongoing success at producing wonderful books. This was matched by the wonderful illustrations which leaves your imagination running wild.

I had this out of the Library for months, my son, barely a year at the time loved the pictures, above all. We bought this recently, apparently for 4 and above, my son, now 20 months has this book as a regular favorite for bed time. He loves the amazing illustrations of the train (I make train noises to go) and points to all the animals as we go through. I only have to say 'oi!, get off our train!' and he's found the book and demanding another read through.
As for political messages, John Burningham doesn't lay it on heavy but tells it how it is but in a way that kids can take it in without feeling they are somehow to blame. More and more material aimed at kids makes them aware of the state we are leaving the planet. As a child of the 70's ... Read More:

My two year old just adores Anthony Browne's books and this is a special favourite with the wonderful illustrations which are so detailed and intricate. A visual gem.
The story definitely has a dark and almost scary feeling to it but he just revels in finding all the different things hidden in the forest. Each time we open the book there is another just waiting to be found.
Another masterpiece and an introduction to the wonderful subtly of black and white images.
