I haven't played any musical instruments since I took flute and piano lessons in school. I had forgotten everything about playing an instrument and hadn't a clue how to read music.
So I decided to go back to the very beginning and learn how to play the humble school recorder again. This book is amazing. In less than two days it had me reading simple music and playing simple tunes. Everything is explained simply and clearly and has exercises to help you remember what you have learned.
I recommend this to anyone wanting to rekindle theri passion for music ... you'll be playing in no time.

The practice tunes are well chosen and well sequenced, but there is no instruction element at all (embouchure, posture, tuning, cleaning etc etc). If you have flute lessons and want this for practice at home it will serve well. I started from scratch on my own and found 'New Tune A Day' far more helpful.

I am twelve years old. When I got a keyboard, I wanted to learn how to play it. So I got this book and followed it page by page until I had finished it. Now I can play a lot of music. I don't think you will find a book much better than this one for learning how to play the piano or any keyboard instrument.

This is a fantastic book for anyone who is learning to play guitar. It covers different aspects of guitar into one brilliant lesson by lesson format. It is full of wonderful illustrations to keep the reader interested and a book anyone must have if learning, as it covers both chords and notes from scratch. I found it easy to use and understand as well as a pleasure to read. A must for all young guitarists!

I bought this book because of the great reviews. It seemed to be just what I was looking for ( and it was). BUT I also purchased the CD to accompany the book, which helps you to know that when you play the flute it actually is sounding as it should be! Together they make learning to play the flute very easy and very enjoyable. I don't worry that I'm not learning correctly because I have the book and CD to refer to. I can take it up in my own time, when I feel like it, without paying £25 per hour for a tutor. Very happy!!!!

Having heard all of Boynton and Ford's other CD/book combos I'd have to say this is the best so far. My 6 year old son loves it, and I find myself addicted to the fantastic and amusing lyrics and catchy tunes.....why torture youself with 'wheels on the bus' when you can be belting out a show stopper (rabbit tango), cruising like a surfer (speed turtle) or simply going crazy (loud!/quiet).

This book has changed the way that I teach singing. It contains songs that the children love, that are easy to learn, with catchy tunes and easily memorised lyrics. Lots of actions and games that have even the most reluctant youngsters joining in with enthusiasm. Since I bought a copy the book has been constantly in use by colleagues, and the CD makes it possible for the non-pianist / non-musician to teach the songs effectively. The childen are now always singing the songs, and I've had several of the parents asking me where they can get the music and CD as their children are so enthusiastic and want to do them at home also. The best resource I have bought in ages. We could do with more like this please - gives the old favourites a run for ... Read More:

I agree with the first reviewer having learnt the recorder at a similar time. Other books have fancy graphics and side comments which are essentially distracting as my kids ended up just flicking through the books instead of learning to read and play music. With this book as soon as it came in my daughter (11 yrs) tried it and the next day had finished the book and was able to read and play competently from other music books. Now she has even learnt them off by heart. I'm looking for the other "oldie" books now.
