I have never been as obsessed with a book as I was with Twilight. I thought about it constantly when I wasn't reading it, and lost a lot of sleep over it too! It was quite an unhealthy obsession... Of course the main reason for loving Twilight is obviously Edward... Who doesn't love him?! But it's also just such a charming, exciting story, which I was hooked on within the first twenty pages.

Another great installment from the horror master Darren Shan. Most of the action takes place on Wolf Island as the title suggests but moves the story on in terms of the genesis of the main character Grubbs Grady. Its fast paced and grisly but fun at the same time. It sets up nicely for the finale next year - I can't wait to see how all the loose ends tie up.

I cannot find enough congratulations to give for this excellent and learned book. The achievement of the age. Loved it! Wonderful characters, a swift moving plot, a deft sense of humour and a surprising ending--this book had it all. And unlike many series I've read, this one keeps getting better with each book. Claimed by Shadow, the sequel, is also a very strong title, and Embrace the Night, the third book in the series, is simply brilliant. The three work together to tell one complex and fascinating tale. Curse the Dawn, the fourth book, is out in April and I can't wait! If you're looking for something a bit different with a stronger plotline and better characterization than normal for genre fiction, this is it!

It's been over a hundred years since Henry James' novella was published. I'm sure readers at the time were spooked by its tale of ghosts threatening the innocence of two children, and the attempts of a quasi-hysterical governess to save them. It was that period of the Victorian era when séances and ghosts were popular, when spiritists promised to bridge the road between the living and the dead. People enjoyed sitting around a fire and sharing ghost stories, specially during Christmas time.

Justifying killing - or trying to - is a more pointed argument when taken in the individual; governments cloud the simplicity with rhetoric, propoganda and patriotism; but, keep the numbers down and the subject is raw and demanding attention.

Matheson strips the numbers down to one in this book, and one has no problem in coming down on the side of Robert Neville - the book's lead, and almost only, character.

One feels his panic when he discovers his watch has stopped and cannot get back to his safe-house before sun-down; and when he smacks his car into a crowd of Vampires like a macarbre game of skittles, one feels his elation.

From the first moment in book one, Lord Loss, when Grubbs Grady encounters the Demonata and their evil minions it is obvious to the reader that Darren Shan books are from a different dimension. You really have to read them with an open mind, and a slightly twisted one too! The heroes are constantly changing, from Grubbs in book one to Kernel Fleck in book two, back to Grubbs in three and then Bec in some of the later episodes. Whoever is in charge you can absolutely guarantee a frightening ride through another world, which Shan depicts so very well. As far as teenage horror goes this is about as entertaining as it gets. You cannot compare it to the real horror masters, such as James Herbert, Shaun Hutson, Brian Keene or Conrad Jones, but they are truly entertaining, even though the storylines ... Read More:

This book was quite unlike any I had previously read. While it was written in 1859 it is still - almost 150 years later - a book as gripping as it presumably was all those years ago for Victorian and Edwardian readers brought up on such spooky classics as Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Dracula and Frankenstein.

Told in the form of letters and diaries of the different characters involved it unfolds bit by bit and keeps you guessing right up until the very end. Collins's characters seem to come alive and make a lasting impression. As a thriller it easily beats many modern-day thrillers and really does have an unequalled air of menace and threat. Despite its age it is immensely readable and is a true page turner. Simply a must!
