The book is detailed in places; however there are some key terms and definitions missing. After reading the reviews I was disappointed and it's certainly not a definitive book for undergraduate level. Although it is useful at times, it's not always going to be there for you. I would recommend looking elsewhere

Given this as a Christmas present, I was not immediately inspired, however I did dip into it and found myself rather hooked!
As a reference book it is wonderful- all those little things that you weren't sure about... all those things you were wondering...
How does that work?
Who was he?
How did he do that?
Which episode did that happen?
What does a Compact Laser Deluxe do? Who had one, and, you know... Where?!
Get all your questions answered and more in this neat, beautifully illustrated guide to the world that is uniquely Doctor Who!
The entire book it dedicated to every useful, and er, not so useful fact that is Doctor who. Who knows what happened in 1336 with the doctor, Rose and Captain Jack? What was ... Read More:

The new edition of The Oxford Guide to Literary Britain & Ireland is an indispensable travel companion, both for explorers and armchair travellers alike. Nearly 2,000 places - villages, towns, cities, and landscapes - are referred to, inviting readers to explore connections with their favourite writers, from where they were born and lived, to where they worked and found inspiration for their writing. In this new edition you can find living authors, as well as all the classics, so from Chaucer, to Jane Austen, to Philip Pullman, you can take a literary journey through history to the present day.
The book is neatly organised by region, and then indexed by writers and place names so it's quite easy to find what you're looking for. Glancing through ... Read More:

i found this book extremely useful when I need to get a brief synopsis of some literature or writer, not only does it tell the story but it also offers a brief analysis. It is also useful if you need to quickly refresh your memory of some literature or if you need to compare some works. a bit heavy to carry around but for home study you couldn't wish for more.

This book is good and the illustrations and photos are great but it really seems as if the book was written as a generic guide to the Royal navy and then they added on the Jack Aubrey stuff later on. There is no real understanding of Aubrey and Maturin and the books in the series - it's a bit generic. Pity

This is a very good introduction to the world of poetry for undergraduates. It's easy to read and humorous, as well as informative. The authors take examples from the likes of Bruce Springsteen and the Rolling Stones to demonstrate their points, so this is not a stuffy academic book at all. Very good!

I cant be sure if this book is trying to be funny in certain places but with suggestions such as "square dance for a change of pace" and "write a speech about what liberty means to you" I cant help but wonder if it is being comical or actually meaningful. I would suggest that this be by every loo the world over or simply in pub and living room tables and it is amazing.
