I think I must need a 'Total Idiot's Guide' as this was not what I thought it would be.
Being a complete beginner with dSLR, I thought this book would be a step-by-step guide on 'How To....' I was a bit wide of the mark - although the book says a lot about why you should do this over that, etc it left me lost on how to actually do it. So I'm using my camera on Auto until my Nikon book arrives. Let's hope I'll have more success with that one.

I recently attended a two-day course on Adobe Photoshop CS3 as part of my conversion to digital photography and digital imaging. At the end of that course the students were all given a copy of this book which contains a training CD Rom. As I was already booked onto the "advanced course" in 14 days time, I eagerly put the CD into my computer to practise what I had learned. Only then did I discover the CD would not work without my having first purchased and installed the full Adobe Photoshop CS3 software.
In my case, I had already ordered that software so it was only a matter of a few days delay before I could get started. Just be warned that you cannot use this product without having first installed the full software package - ... Read More:

That's a strong thing to say I know but its true, I am currently on week 8 and I have never been so inspired to make changes in my life and I am LOVING IT!
A friend gave me this book because I was complaining that I didn't have a creative bone in my body and I was generally bored with doing the same things over and over. She thrust the book at me and said 'read this!' I bought a journal the same day and I have written in it every day ever since. It has made me remember many precious things about my past and discover new interests and the importance of spending time with myself, doing things that make me happy like hanging out in a bookshop, buying that lush sketch book I never felt worthy of because I couldn't draw

This book was essential reading for me during my literacy specialist tutor training, and two years later it is still in regular use. If you want to check your use of grammar, wonder what word is used for truanting in South Wales, or are puzzled as to what a morpheme is, the answers are here. It never let me down when I wanted to check something. Not the cheapest or most portable book there is, but definitely the best.

Great read - good anecdotes but definitely not for the beginner looking for technical info.
I couldn't put it down till I'd ploughed through it but I still keep diving in and picking up tips and techniques I can now use in my own (wedding) photography.
The references to how Joe uses the Nikon SB800's as slave units I found particularly useful.
Buy it now - great value for money.

Great. This deserves the hype but not the butchering it received on film at the hands of the Wachowksi brothers. This is really about Thatcher's Britain and nuclear winters and the social control of 'deviant' minorities and the power of dissent. So it has something to say about today. But don't read it as a proxy for political critique. It is a joy for many a reason, of which its anarchist politics is one, but our present predicaments require something less wedded to Cold War models. V for Vendetta is of its time, by which I mean also that it is a classic.

This is an excellent source of UK Planning Law and Practice for, in particular, overseas students who have no prior knowledge of the UK Planning system. This applies to those from countries like New Zealand and australia who have their planning systems originating from the UK, as the UK has its own distinctive system unlike the land use zoning patterns of New Zealand the US.
It is quite a substantial book however all chapters are useful and cover subjcts from Development Control to Urban Regeneration. It is a must-read before you arrive in the UK or begin practice.

I have just bought this book and can honestly say it is now my absolutely favourite book. Tim Walker's photographs are so imaginative, wacky and beautifully shot, that this book is guaranteed to inspire you. If you have been considering buying this book but perhaps are hesitating over its price as I did, (although there is a considerable discount if you buy it on amazon) I would urge you to buy it now as it is worth every penny. The only problem with it is that it is so huge that I have no idea where I am going to keep it, but no doubt I shall make a space for it somewhere in a prominent position where I can look at it every day!
If you do buy it I hope you enjoy and love it as much as I do.

One of the best biographies i have ever read. Beautifully written and fascinating even for someone like me who had little previous interest in either architecture or the nineteenth century.

I had known of this book for about a year when i finally decided to buy it. I was put off by the slightly dodgy artwork and the very serious nature of the plot which to me is not what comics are about. Anyway,I wanted to read it so i could come on hear and rant about how it is an over-rated waste of time but I cant. The art isnt perfect i agree but it has its charms and as you read the story you really do get into the simplistic nature of it,it works for this,it doesnt distract from the story which over stylised art would. The story is VERY well written and everything i read totally shocked and moved me.
The jist of my review is - if you are put off by the art but you liked schindlers list or have a fascination with hearing about the holocaust from a personal perspective ... Read More:
