this book explores the topics of study for AQA french A-level - it is a great aid to the final exams which I am currently sitting and has proved to be an immense grammar and vocabularly aid to me and to my peers who have also used this book for study. I would highly recommend Elan 2 to anyone studying A-level french, if you aren't I wouldn't bother as it would probably be no good. If you do buy it, enjoy... and good luck in your exams

I'm a native French speaker and I bought this book to use as teaching material in private tuition.

This is the next step up after Usborne First Hundred Words in French and Everyday Words in French. The slightly less childish style, the very busy scenes featuring 30 to 40 words, the wealth of basic vocabulary make it a very useful tool for learners of a wide range of ages (though most of the central characters remain children).

All the labels and titles are written in French only, which is good as it encourages learners to associate French words directly with objects, people or concepts without the distraction of an English translation. Not having learnt french since school (GCSE/GCE) I found the stories easy enough to get the general story line but complex enough to challenge and revise my knowledge of the language - and extend it. The parallel text is just fantastic you don't lose interest constantly having to look words up in a dictionary. Would strongly recomend this book for intermediates.

This is an excellent book for a beginner who wishes to go beyond the typical phrase book/audio materials. The way this book is written; the reader, even with a very basic knowledge in French, can understand, get the general idea and relate to the stories and facts presented. The sentences and phrases used in the book, particularly in the first sections (Julie and Marc in Paris), are constructed in an easy to understand manner. They, in a clever way, avoid the use of more complex grammatical features. Only a very basic French grammar would be required to read this book. The entertaining feature of the book combined with its straight forward sentence structure encourages the learner to read further and construct new knowledge and understanding in French.

I fully praise this product for differing from the over populated language learning tools market. While the market has many examples of good books and CDs, they are yet to be combined in such a way as this.

The only fault I could really mention is that with the CD refering to the books a lot, it wouldn't be a viable purchase for learning in the car or on the move, for example. You'll need the time to put in to learning your chosen language, but should you put the time in it will pay off.

This is the best French grammar book I've found. Ideal for A level students. Packs a huge amount in. Printed on high quality glossy paper and not an inch wasted. Lots of exercises with a couple of pages of learning between. Covers a lot of ground and very thoroughly. Not a textbook of grammar but ideal for those with GCSE level who wish to progress to A level standard. The exercises are very up to date and don't have that dated feeling that so many grammar books have. Excellent value for what it contains.

As an advanced learner of French, I found this book very useful. I particularly enjoyed the thoughtful emphasis on identifying (and rectifying) errors of grammar consistently made by English speakers when learning French. Unlike other reviewers, I found the range of texts used to be varied and interesting - I went on to discover the stories of Prevert from reading extracts in this book. The analysis provided for each text is thorough and cross referenced throughout. It is truly hard to make this kind of book intersting, especially if you are reading them on your own but I think this is one of the best out there and I am a sad enough person to have read quite a few!

Going abroad? May be to France or England - but you do not know any French, is that it? Well now your worries are all over with this book: The Collins French Dictionary! Now, it is in colour so it is even better and easier to use! Also, it has a phrasefinder to make it a lot simpler for travellers. Half of this book is French to English and the remaining half is the other way around! So you can be French and go to England or vice versa. It was ever so useful when I went to Paris! It is part of the Collins Gems books which is a series and it includes Whales and Dolphins, Stars, Spiders, Babies Names, Superstitions, Cats, Flags, The Collins Spanish Dictionary and The Collins German Dictionary. All of these are all pocket sized which makes each book even better!

Dawn is a genuine national treasure - warm , cuddly and a comic genius - but sensitive, intelligent and utterly humble - not words that can be uttered about many of todays plastic, one minute wonders....

My only criticism is that chapter 12 made me laugh so much I nearly peed myself on the train.
