I absolutely love this book, I watched the show and was so lulled by Nigella's coquettish cooing that I found myself wanting to make everything she did. I got the book as a gift from friends after encouraging them to watch the show, and invited them over for a Nigella Night where I made the Coq au Reisling and the Chocolate Pistachio Fudge (which although a bit rich is absolutely divine and can be varied with flavoured chocolated and some unsalted cashews as well). I have to say I much prefer watching the show as her adjective style (beat this until it forms stiff white creamy peaks) is almost as fun to watch as the cooking. But the book is fantastic and the illustrations are great - although I am a little dubious about her claim to have ... Read More:

After reading that 'Wild Swim' was the book of the week in the Mail on Sunday I bought it.
It has stunning photography and carries fascinating desiptions of each location.
Kate Rew's appreciation of the nature around her on the trips, especially to the rivers and sea, is profound. I felt so envigorated and inspired that I could not wait to follow up one of the swims locally.
With over 300 places to visit there is something for everyone, the locations are varied and unusual. Open any page and you will be enthralled, whether you are a swimmer or not.

Massive fan of JP however, his books just keep getting worse!!! This has to be the most boring and unrealistic book I have ever read. How the family manage to survice so much just makes it a comedy!!!

An astounding book. A riveting portrait of fraility and self-doubt full of drama and pace and tragedy. I have little idea who most of these people are but was utterly gripped by the sheer power of the prose. Just amazing.

I really love this book! It's a real joy to read and the photographs are wonderful. It's also a very practical guide and I found it really easy to visit one of the beautiful 'hidden dips' this weekend. It's going to be my essential guide to summer! I'd recommend it to everyone.

As a previous reviewer states, this book seems as if it has been rushed into print. In addition to the poor quality of the graphs (they look like they have been photocopied) the short section where Soros provides a chronology of his recent trading decisions just read like a few pages of his diary have been added to the book to fill it out.
In addition, if you have read any of Soros' other books prepare to go over some familiar ground. As he fairly explicitly acknowledges a large motivation for him to write is to promote his conception of relexivity. If you are expecting and wanting to read this and discover trading tips, or very specific economic predictions you might as well save your money. Almost by its nature the concept of reflexivity ... An excellent book telling of the mutiny. Whilst the book almost neglects the natives this isn't fiction dressed up as colonial propaganda. This is an incredibly humorous tale of a group of Englishmen trapped within a residency, besieged by a whole host of natives. As the siege progresses civilization, science and religion are all discussed along with the odd smattering of phrenology. An incredibly entertaining book and one very worth reading.

As a child the Paddington books were a great pleasure to me, managing to be both cosily conventional and yet utterly iconoclastic at the same time. To a child, the experience of watching an ingenue in the adult world is one with which it is very easy to identify. This was the great strength of the series. And now, after all this time, Paddington returns. So has time been kind to our friend form Darkest Peru? Happily, the answer is a very resounding "yes".
The book itself is a solid and heavy hardback and the illustrations are charming and of good quality, as is the jacket. Such presentation gives a good feeling about what lies inside.
As for the book itself, in all honesty the style has changed not one bit. The odd thing is that it is really quite ... Read More:

I'm afraid I cannot agree with some of the other reviews on this book. I have just started the Balinese bit and I am struggling. I could not see what the fuss was about with Italy in the Italian part of the book and during the Indian part, it just felt that the kind of detail she was putting in just made it all seem fake.
I agree that she writes very well, she is witty and I like her characters, but so far I have not been able to enjoy the book. In all, I have found it a disappointment as it was recommended to me.
