The Force Unleashed is about a young man with Force powers so immense he can whip Vader and the Emperor simultaneously. Based on a video game in which you get to play this Force-wielding giant, the conceptual emphasis is on action and playability, rather than character or drama. Consequently the graphic novel reads like a series of set pieces, big fight scenes with a bit of exposition to tie them together. Ostensibly the plot concerns the inception of the Rebellion, but as with the beginnings of most things in the Star Wars universe, the origin of the Alliance is more than it seems.
Thematically, TFU cleaves closely to the SW universe formula - young man spends his life doing bad and redeems himself in the end with a tiny act of ... Read More:

As someone who has not followed a marvel story arc in a few years. I found this an absolutely essential read to get me up to speed with what was going on in the Marvel Universe in the lead up to Civil War. The Maleev artwork , in the Illuminati one-shot, eased me in, as it was his and Bendis' Daredevil run that was the last arc I followed. This section was the stand out for me, reminding me of the Sidney Lumet movie "Twelve Angry Men", but obviously taken to a "super" degree. It's not the life of one man at stake, but the whole world. The Fantastic Four and Spider-man sections worked well, but not as fluidly for me as the Illuminati. Certain factors felt slightly too forced (see the editing team's bickering), but you see why they crowbarred in ... Read More:

The first in a line of omnibus collections of the X-Wing Graphic Novels. This is a really fine book that can help put some of the earlyer post Endor adventures into perspective as they build a lot of the back story for the X-Wing series of novels. The time frame for these stories is approximatly 1 week to 1 year after the battle of Endor. The series shows how many later charecters came to be in thier various situations. Each book in the series contains three indevidual stoies. The good thing about this is that in this book the first two stories were never bublished as indeviuals at least in the UK (to the best of my knowlage), so for people who missed some of the sories this is a wonderfull chance to collect them all.

This 'Hellboy' graphic novel is comprised of several stories that were originaly sold individually the book includes 'Pancakes', 'The Nature of the Beast', 'King Vold', 'Heads', 'Goodbye,Mister Tod', 'The Varcolac' and the title story The 'Right Hand of Doom' and finally 'Box full of Evil 'which in my opinion is the finest 'Hellboy' story i have read so far, although i have not yet read the very first 'Hellboy' comics 'The Seed of Destruction' and 'Wake the Devil'. The creator of Hellboy Mike Mignola is such a skilled artist and storyteller, his ideas are so well realised by this exquisite series of comic books. I love the way he has 'Hellboy' solving these fantastic mysteries in places such as Sussex and 'Hellboy' himself arrived on this ... Read More:

Here is a book whose cover and title say it all.
With a good story and simple theme (revenge), the book excels for the sheer feeling of might you get when reading it.
The art by John Romita Jr. really expresses the rage the Hulk is in, giving him that "Hulk smash" look that everyone is truly afraid.
The writing by Greg Pak makes the dialogues that the Hulk has with everyone add an extra feel to it.
One of the Hulk's line describes his rage the best: Never stop making them pay.
It is, in my oppinion, a good reading that adds a great story to the Green Giant library.
