I took up digital photography recently and bought this book, after been diappointed with another photo book.
This book is a must for the person new at digital photography. It goes hand in hand with my Canon 400D.
The book is very up to date,last published in 2008. I wanted how to learn how to take good photos and not just how to work in the dark room or editing pics etc;
I wasn't diappointed. This covers the purchase of a camera, the lens you need, other accessories, photo techniques etc; There are even tips on most of the pages, things to do and not do!
This book is a great reference and a valuable read for the photographer.
I highly recommend this book, especially for the beginner to digital photography.

As the title suggests, the book is a step by step guide to Office Project 2007. It walks you through all of the different aspects of Project that a new or intermediate user could be expected to know or benefit from. It also provides a number of "tips" where a more advanced or enquiring user may want to find further information. The layout and structure of the book is very good, which could reasonably be expected, with "Chapters at a Glance", "Summaries of topics covered", "Key points" and very clear formatting to help the reader/user.
As a previous user of an older version of Project, I bought the book as both a refresher to Project and an introduction to the new 07 version. It has certainly delivered on both these counts. However, ... Read More:

I just bought the 450D and this is very helpful to get familiar with all the functions and buttons and menu options. Also has a basic guide to taking specific photos towards the end.

Note This review applies only to the 4th edition.
This 4th edition book was recommended on a reading list for an economics related course and I duly bought it. Big mistake! There are numerous errors; decimal points omitted, plus signs where there should be minus signs and x's where there should be y's. Some of these mistakes are more obvious than others. In one example that I noticed 'in' has been left out from the word inefficient and the sentence has a completely different meaning.
Imagine my surprise when I checked a third editon copy and found it free from these mistakes. I wish I'd just bought a second-hand copy of the 3rd edtion. All in all it is a very poorly edited text. Lecturers out ... Read More:

Having been a keen amateur photographer for 40 years, I hoped this book would "top up" my knowledge for this advanced bit of kit. Well, just a few pages in, I realised how little I knew and very quickly was taking much better shots and working my way through the more sophisticated features.
Sections on white balance, photo styles and computer editing, whilst not always specific to the 40D, are very useful indeed.
Highly recommended for getting the most out of the great camera.

This is a good book for project managers and senior developers who have enough experience to understand that even a practice like agile development needs a framework to work within and a certain number of standard project management controls to be successful.
It deals with some of the practical issues a project manager will face like prioritisation techniques, acceptable levels of functional delivery, inter-dependencies, estimating, padding estimates, monitoring progress, release and iteration planning.
Cohn hasn't written the book specifically around any one methodology (ie SCRUM, XP etc) which is good, as in reality people lift and use ideas from various methodologies. In that respect this book is a good reference guide ... Read More:

I've been a business/systems analyst for about 12 years, and read about 2-3 books a year to keep upto date. I went on a UML course, and this book was recommended by the course tutor.
I think its one of the best UML books I've ever read (and I've read about 20), and indeed one of the best books on analysis I've ever read. What I really like about it is that there are lots and lots of example models, so you're left in no doubt about what the message is and you get to see lots of ways of modelling scenarios.
I will definitely be reading their next book.

Matlab has become very popular in the engineering field. Whilst both Maple and Mathematica have stronger symbolic capabilities, Matlab excels in the numerics and so tends to be used for engineering more than pure maths.
The Matlab documentation is built into the program and is also available online. There is a very active newsgroup comp.soft-sys.matlab where Matlab users can ask for help. It is read by a lot of staff from Mathworks and they, or other Matlab users, answer questions quickly. The importance of good support on this sort of software can not be overstated. This is a serious issue with Mathematica, which is a similar(ish) product to Matlab. The Mathematica newsgroup is moderated, so help requests can take a day before anyone sees ... Read More:

I bought this book at the start of my degree course and i would highly recommend it for beginners, as it explains everything in detail for you, it has helped me greatly in understanding how sound works and how we record today. It gives detailed diagrams throughout the book which makes it easy to explain the technical side of things.
Great book, would definately recommend this book, every sound student should own a copy .
