yes it is similar to other books about teenage life as a gay guy but theres a difference, its also got more then 1 culture unlike all the others, theres two main characters, one white and one asian (hindu)

me personally im asian and found i could relate to "Raj", i also found it informative on the whole "Vedism" section, who would have thought gay asians wouldnt be shunned upon many hundreds of years ago. its a surprise to me, and im not just taking this info from the book. i did research on vedism to clarify this for myself.

Davidson's previous book (Fishcakes and Courtesans) was one of the best things ever written on the Ancient World. By contrast, this one should have had the serious attentions of an editor, who would, first of all, have reduced its length by at least half. And then controlled Davidson's runaway propensity for slang terms, neologisms and typographical innovations, all of which are confusing and irritating. I do now believe I have read the whole book (to do so from cover to cover in the order it is written is impossible) but I am still not clear what he is trying to say: was homosexuality the accepted norm in ancient Greece or not? It seems, reading between the lines, that Davidson thinks it wasn't (in the earlier book, he says so more clearly), but ... Read More:

The only problem with this book is that it is too short!

This story is beautifully written with much respect for the landscape in which it is set. There is intrigue, deception, love, hatred and a dozen other emotions running riot between the covers of this book.
One not to be missed...

They're strong, take important decisions professionally and can be funny and lovable. MacGregor writes well and describes characters in such a way that make you wish to be another guest at the Weller Regent Hotel in Orlando and witness what's cooking there.

My Fair Captain

In my opinion, not as good as J L Langleys other books. A strange mix of space and regency took a while to get into but still a fair read. The characters were not as loveable as in her other books but that is my personal feelings. Read it yourself and judge.
