This book is one of many I have read on film making. I am a self taught independent professional film maker and I wish I had bought this book first. It's title says it all. It is very well written, well researched, worth the money. Get 'Grammer of the Shot' while you are at it.

This is a truly amazing book. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wishes to go beyond the classical approach to theatre and get to grips with the essence of a play and a character. This book is like the actor's Bible and really shows how you can get to truth in your acting in a comprehensive, lesson by lesson approach by one of the greatest acting teachers whose work has been continued to this day, inspiring actors such as the great Marlon Brando, Robert de Niro, Dustin Hoffman etc.

"Abba" (Really Easy Piano)

This book does what the title says - it shows you the piano music and lyrics for all the well known Abba songs, in a very easy to read format. I learnt to play 20 years ago and have only just taken up the piano again. I have a proper Abba music book from the 80's but as I'm so out of practice I can't even begin to tackle the proper notation. This book cuts out some of the intros to the songs (a bit of shame eg SOS) and keeps the notation to one note per hand instead of three or more notes per hand. It is simple enough for a virtual beginner to play their favourite Abba track and sing along at the same time. (My 7 year old even had a go tonight). This book is now my new bible, It has helped me so much in overcoming those performance nerves that you will always aquire at a performance. My self doubt and fear of failure has always been a problem, this book is the solution to my problem and has made me look at performance in a whole new perspective. My nerves have been reduced to that of a 'fun' feeling instead of gut wrenching sensation. Now I enjoy performance and have found myself to be more relaxed, this is one game you can't miss out on!!

I find myself at least part in agreement with David Martin. This is quite a good book but suffers from a malady shared by many of the earlier and European theory books of just being terminally old fashoned. Education has moved on since dry and dense books like this were in fashion and the newer alternatives coming out of America are helpful, colourful and just more interesting to read. More importantly they come "fully loaded" with audio examples on CD and computer software to help the student actually hear the musical examples and also what she or he has done in exercises and then refine it. I'm afraid that they just make the british books look rather "stayed".

Having studied this play for GCSE, I can safely say it was one of the better texts, although the characters are not easy to relate to the reader can identify with many of their traits and it is from this that the reader can sympathise with the characters and their situation.

This slim volume has a nice card cover so should stand quite happily on your music stand.

All the italian terms are listed and defined in a preface.

Each piece is preceded by a short paragraph giving a little history of the piece or composer.

There is plenty of space around the staves for your own notes.

Only one piece spans more than two pages (and is the only piece that requires a page to be turned whilst playing), and that is both a slow piece and has "turn" marked in the score to remind players.

Overall an ideal book for beginners, or for sight reading practice by intermediate students.

The only thing missing is an assessment of the difficulty of the pieces (or a list roughly ordered by difficulty ... Read More:
