The RSC Shakespeare: The Complete Works

This is a gorgeous book to hold. The print quality is just right, and the all time master of the English language shines through. The footnotes don't alway's hit the right balance, between excess and shortage, but are never intrusive. It is still amazing to me that this man, from so long ago, in such a different age and circumstance, without the advantages we enjoy, should still stand unparalleled as the greatest writer in English with depth, insight and poetry dripping constantly from the mouths of his dramatic creations. If you baulk at the price, by all means enjoy a cheaper copy, there'll be some in your nearby charity shop, but this edition is well worth it to me.

This book is incredibly boring.

This Shakespeare guy is way over-rated.

it is written in old English so you need an other book to simply translate it's text. In this day and age you would be insane to read this for fun. Rent a blu-ray disc or go to the cinema or something.

On the other hand if you are doing it for school then I guess you have to buy it.

A modern look, and a simple, easy to follow format make this tutor ideal for use with children. It might also interest adults who are learning guitar as it contains graduated pieces for practise and diversity. Don't forget that Book 2 takes you further in your quest to play more difficult tunes, some of which are by popular classical guitar composers.

I enjoyed this book immensely. It is very tempting to describe the book by what it is not, not autobiography, not a companion to "Sorry I haven't a clue", not about Jazz... Though I think anyone with an interest in these areas will enjoy it.
The book is quite literally a collection of rambling thoughts and reminiscences - which does not sound very appealing. But Humphs love of language and music shine though continually, and it flows along in a delightful manner.
While his achievements in Jazz and Comedy are well known, Humph's journalism successes are perhaps less well known - and in my opinion his abilities as a writer are every bit as great, and that shines from the pages of this book. I really think anyone with a sense of humour will ... Read More:

From the outset, this might seem like a play chiefly mourning the decline of Irish culture due to the English. If it was as simple and, frankly, boring as this then I wouldn't like it, let alone rate it 5 stars. For me though, this play isn't really 'about' this or anything else. Friel is notorious for refusing to tell people what the 'point' of his plays are and that is probably because with Translations he is not attempting to 'make a point' or argue one view, but to explore various issues without trying to give a definite 'answer'.

The way I see it the purpose of Translations is to present to the mind of the audience members ideas or views which they then can digest and reflect on. This includes issues in the philosophy of language, identity, ... Read More:

Great story. This illustrates much in human behaviour around "witch hunts", be this communism, witchcraft, or whatever.

It is NOT historical fact, but a view of the small-town thinking, suspicious, back-stabbing, jealousy and greedy nature of characters which can be surfaced by opportunity. Wonderful scenes of hysteria which made me laugh too.

Easy to follow, but with something to dig your teeth into.

This little book is a brilliant guide for the beginner in music theory, or for the student who just needs to brush up on basic knowledge. It is suitable for children and adults and explains such matters as rhythm, key signatures, time signatures and virtually all the details of basic music theory in a straightforward and easy-to-understand way.
There are very few really "easy" guides around on music theory, but this must be one of the best.
