I was a bit disappointed as I only bought the second edition in 2005, but when I went out and updated it, there was in fact not that much change at all to the vast majority of the text! Sure, the new 2005 CPR guidelines are there (I guess this and the name change dropping `Accident' were the reasons to `rush out' a new edition so quickly), but most of the text is the same. And I'm still tired of straining to read it!

Although it may be unpalatable to many, this is exactly what it was ( ?is) like to be junior doctor...I know i was one.
I'm now a consultant and things haven't changed much (other than for the worse)
Read it if you want to get a true perspective as opposed to the nonsense in Holby City, Casualty etc
Whilst you're at it take a look at the Cardiac Arrest series from the 90's now on DVD -- probaly the best hospital TV series ever made

Having never seen any other edition of the Midwives Dictionary, I have nothing to compare this to. This has all the terms that you are ever likely to come across in a midwifery situation and some definitions come with diagrams, which help to back up the definition.
There are also appendices at the back with various charts and diagrams.
This is a great reference guide that fits nicely in your pocket and good when you need to know something in a hurry.

Yes - its better than Mayes. Well I think so anyway!
I've used the book for every assignment in my training and am sure I will continue to dip into the book when qualified. Its clearly written and easy to understand. Broken down into short sections with good headings. Useful diagrams.
There's 7 sections in the book and each section is split into different chapters, each written by a different author.
Section 1 - Midwifery.
Includes; The Midwife, Social Context of Motherhood,Ethics, Evidence based Practice. History and regulation.
Section 2 - Anatomy and Reproduction.
Chapters Include; pelvis, female urinary system, hormonal cycles, fertilisation, placenta, the fetus.

Considering the way the radiography is going in terms of red dotting (which has been around since 1980 in the UK) and reporting radiographers, it is very handy to justify a RED DOT on a trauma film. It is also nice in terms of some of the comparisons that staff use eg shoulder girdle and a golf ball on a tee, nice drawings back up what they say.
My only criticism is I find text books with radio graphs that don't have a marker on them confusing.
Worth a read especialy for SHO's going into emergency medicine.
Essential viewing for student radiographers

The book deals with many different horse management aspects, such as equine anatomy/phsiology, watering and feeding, tack, shoeing, planning day to day chores, clipping, and generally shows how things should be done properly. In particular the sections on nutrition are good, as they cover the biological nutrients needed, the way in which the horse digests food, and how to ration for your own horse covering horses which are used for dressage, jumping, endurance etc. This book will not however answer all of your questions, nor is it meant to. It does however provide more than just a starting point for your research. Trust me I am an equine studies degree student.

A good book but not detailed enough. We use this as an additional training resource here at PPL Plumbing Training in York. As with the Level 3 version it seems to be aimed at younger learners. It is easy to read and gives a fair amount of coverage but we believe there are more comprehensive level 3 books out there.

This book will never win a prize for literary content, but if you're going to get serious about Portable Appliance Testing it's this season's must have and it will get you through the C&G exam. Somewhat expensive (hence 4*s) - to be expected maybe? - electrical engineers are probably not best known for their writing skills so there must be a rarity premium. Tells you what you need to know and lots of stuff you don't - hardcore information and good for insomnia too. The Amazon combo deal including this title and "PAT - Portable Appliance Testing: In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment" by Brian Scaddan is excellent and gives you the only two documents you really need. Well worth the money.
