This was a brilliant book that cut the crap and covered everything that you needed to know. I didn't buy it because of some of the reviews that I'd read, but we were issued it by our medical school as the course textbook and it covered everything that we needed to know and then some, without having to get hold of supplementary books to cover the rest of it. And the exam wasn't based on the book, it was based on lectures. It really is a good book, and it can be quite long-winded, but it's a reliable text that you know will get there in the end.

Alison Benjamin and Brian McCallum are two British reporters and amateur bee-keepers. Benjamin works for the British daily paper The Guardian. Their book "A world without bees" was published earlier this year, and deals with the mysterious mass deaths of honeybees all around the world, the so-called Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD). While some people belive that CCD doesn't really exist, for instance the current Wikipedia writer on the subject, others consider it a serious, global threat to bee-keeping. Benjamin and McCallum certainly belong to the latter camp, claiming that one third of US beehives and two-thirds of those in France have been wiped out by this mysterious condition. Most scientists seem to agree that CCD does exist, but so far no good ... Read More:

This is a first-rate book. If you're looking for an account of the current state of Quantum Mechanics and Relativity which is accessible to a non-scientist and takes you from the basics through to most recent developments, this is for you. It is easy to read, but doesn't fudge issues or patronise and has real intellectual weight beneath a thoroughly good-humoured surface. Marcus Chown has been one of our best scientific writers in journals like New Scientist for many years and has already written several really good books. This is well up to standard and I recommend it without reservation. A cracker.
To be honest both the 'Engineering Mathematics' and this volume 'Advanced Engineering Mathematics' can be useful for revision of principles due to it stripped-bare style. Often the lack of explicit theory that is needed with pure can be helpful as the bare bones are exposed for examination.
For example in 'A.E.M', the section on 'Power Series', 'Vector Analysis (1-2-3)' and 'Complex Analysis (1-2-3)', the latter in regards to 'Greens Theorem' & 'Cauchy Theorem' sections with their concise, bare-bones definitions is a model of clarity.
I say this and accept the real need for more supporting theory which is missing in these volumes. So large areas cannot be logically fully justified, and notice vast area ... Read More:

I got the first edition. Its hard back and huge!!1975!!!
Its concise and facilitates what i need and for the cost is good for value. Just a shame the product ordered was not entirely correct though and is over 30yrs old. The content though is adequate and the seller is good.

This book will never win a prize for literary content, but if you're going to get serious about Portable Appliance Testing it's this season's must have and it will get you through the C&G exam. Somewhat expensive (hence 4*s) - to be expected maybe? - electrical engineers are probably not best known for their writing skills so there must be a rarity premium. Tells you what you need to know and lots of stuff you don't - hardcore information and good for insomnia too. The Amazon combo deal including this title and "PAT - Portable Appliance Testing: In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment" by Brian Scaddan is excellent and gives you the only two documents you really need. Well worth the money.
