This book was purchased following recommendations by AnaesthesiaUK and colleagues. It has proved to be invaluable during the beginning of my anaesthetic career and for the primary examination.
The text and illustrations provide clear and concise information while the MCQ's at the end of each chapter have enabled a means of accessing ones learning.
Overall, this book provides all that is necessary for understanding anaesthetic equipment and also importantly for passing exams!!

There are many good things in this book, the author urging a more seasonal and local approach to food being the main theme. I can see how inspirational this book can be.
However the stumbling block for me was the superior approach the authors took to anyone who did not fit in with what they believed. For instance, the daughter wrote a piece about people who did not eat meat being unable to get proper and complete nutrients. This is nonsense, and what was written sounded like someone else speaking, some one else telling her that being an omnivore was the only right way. It felt almost religious in away - I am right and if you disagree you are wrong.
There were also instances in the book where the main author took ... Read More:

This is a great little book. You get the feeling that the author has either kept the species written about, or has paid attention to other veteran keepers. It's one of those books you look to keep on the coffee table; it's a joy to browse through.

This book is an excellent addition to the ever-popular Oxford Handbook series. It has all the usual stuff that you'd expect in a clinical examination book, but it also includes detailed coverage of many essential practical procedures (e.g. ABG) and has good sections on psychiatry and paeds. Medical ethics even make a brief appearance. In addition, there is a large data interpretation chapter which covers all the essentials such as interpretation of the ECG and chest X-ray. The style is crisp and to the point with a distinctive, sometimes quirky but erudite tone that I find enjoyable to read - and the text is peppered with interesting facts and historical curiosities. For instance, did you know that cat allergy is caused by one of the proteins in ... Read More:

What a brilliant book.....it presents all the information clearly and with good x-rays to back it up. A brilliant buy at under £20.
A must read for student Radiographers everywhere.

Here we see glimpses of Einstein the man, not the scientist. As science moved further away from the ideal that it was supposed to benefit mankind in a positive way, Einstein believed the mission of science was to work for mankind's well-being. He will be sadly missed, a great man that thought with his heart as well as his head.

I abandoned this book as it is utterly boring. It is certainly not a page-turner. Its author has a patronising and discouraging attitude. He underestimates the intellect of his readers. His major fault, however, is over-elaboration and particularly when it is so unnecessary. Anyone taking up the career of biology would be best advised to avoid this book. The author's communication skill is appalling. How anyone could find the book interesting is beyond my comprehension. It almost slayed my interest in biology. On reading it, it became apparent why the used editions are low in price! My copy too will be added to this heap.

As an architect, and a die-hard modernist, I often find the TV show Grand Designs infuriating. Clients either fire their architects early on and have no concept of how to a) design, b) cost-manage or c) run projects on-site, thus build fairly horrendous homes.
There are a few rare gems but more often than not the projects go way over budget and clients decisions are simply baffling. If there is ONE message to anyone thinking of building their own home, be it a chic 2-bed mews or a grand country home...PLEASE PLEASE look at architectural books, see how good architects do things and then decide on what you want.
Find an enthusiastic architect with prior experience and trust them to design a good home.
McCloud often waxes lyrical about fairly ... Read More:

This book has been used by ambulance staff for the past 20 years and is still a fine beginers book to anatomy and some physiology. Probably the Foundation Degree and BSc Paramedic would probably prefer a little more depth. Typical A&P books that are used by paramedics would be Totora, McHance, Matteli, and others.
