Having never seen any other edition of the Midwives Dictionary, I have nothing to compare this to. This has all the terms that you are ever likely to come across in a midwifery situation and some definitions come with diagrams, which help to back up the definition.
There are also appendices at the back with various charts and diagrams.
This is a great reference guide that fits nicely in your pocket and good when you need to know something in a hurry.

I teach the ITEC A&P qualification and know only too well how difficult it is to find a text book written at the level required to support the course and syllabus (A level).
I have used the Louise Tucker book for the last four years but it lacks decent illustrations and contains a shocking number of mistakes, even after a trillion editions - its biggest critism.
However I aim to use this book for the next academic year, after I discovered it too late for this year's students. It is written in a simple easy-to-read manner with plenty of activities such as labelling diagrams, which may seem a bit 'play school' to some, but are a proven technique to successful learning and retention of information. It may not fully support ... Read More:

This book contains tips and advice on what to expect on the BMAT test and what kind of skills you need to develop to do well. The majority of the book is taken up by a worked BMAT style paper. Each question has a commentary about different ways of approach and the techniques that could save you time. It also has copies of the answer sheet you'll have to fill in on the day of the test and the marking scheme. Reading this book alone would not be a complete preparation for the test - unless you ace all the questions - and further study texts are recommended inside. If you're not sure whether to buy it or not, try the online BMAT test first, if you need further explanation of what the test involves this is useful. But if that satistisfies your curiousity, ... I've owned this book for a matter of days but have been disappointed. I'm a psychology degree student. Most recent essay - "Consciousness". However, terms like "Access Consciousness; Phenomenal Consciousness; Monitoring Consciousness and Self-Consciousness" are not included. The term "pseudoseizure" is omitted...to name just a handful of words I've tried to look up. I was also disappointed by some of the definitions, finding them too vague. Perhaps I need to give this reference book a chance, but for now, I'm not impressed. Perhaps I was expecting too much...?

This book is an excellent introduction to an interesting but difficult subject. Filled with diagrams and colour dissection pictures I would highly recommend it as an accompaniment to a medical course in Neuroanatomy. At times the sentence structure could be clearer, but overall a very good investment for medics in their early career.

What a fantastic book! Every chapter is well written ~ easy to follow pictures ~ review/knowledge questions at the end of each chapter to test understanding and the CDRom is a foolproof learning tool, again monitoring your weaknesses/strengths. Wish I'd bought it 6 months ago!

Well laid out. easy to read. lots of nice diagrams. ok so it won't get you honours points but should contain enough to pass and is far less intimidating than those huge physiology texts. great for preclinical medics. not enough detail for pure physiology students though.
