John Canemaker's 4th Disney book is dedicated to the woman that gave a unique touch of colour, styling and magic over the Disney films from mid 40s to mid 50s.

Although the text is more or less the same that appears in Canemaker's book ''Before The Animation Begins'' (a book about the lives and art of the conceptual artists of Disney, published in 1999), the Artwork is not the same!!! It is obvious that Canemaker did not find more things to write (and probably Mary Blair had a quiet and low profile life) but he did his best to come up with totaly fresh artwork from the Disney Archives and from private collections. The book is cleverly divided in chapters that marked Mary's career and the design reflects her fashionable sense of styling! ... Read More:

No doubt Sarah Kane will attract much attention from students over the next few years as the forerunner of the 'in yer face' sensibility and one of the least studied and most talked about playwrights of the 20th century. Thankfully Sauders' comprehensive study is a very useful work to fill the academic void that surrounds this important playwright. It gives useful background, influences and reactions to all of Kane's plays in significant depth. It also includes many useful interviews and the introduction shows great insight into the state of British theatre during the 1990s. If you are a fan of Sarah Kane, or want to write an essay on her then currently this is by far the most important work to read.

This is not just a useful book for women's studies, but for history of art students too. I just remember this author for her feminist views and ground breaking book - The Female Eunech - but now note also how well Greer writes. She is accurate and academic, yet pleasantly so and easy to read. Research is evident and wide comparisons are made. I have used this book for studies on Artemesia Gentileschi, Caravaggio and the Pre-Raphaelite artists and poets and it is also interesting to note what has happened to would-be female artists, now and then. Why aren't you an artist if you are creative?

A fascinating and unusual book, it paints a backgound of how life was in early 17th century Rome for the artists of the day.

Artemisia Gentileschi's mother died in childbirth and her father Orazio raised their remaining children alone. Artemisia lived as a virtual prisoner in her father's house rarely going out or meeting others. From an early age she was adept at preparing her father's paint, varnishes and glaze, and showed early promise as an artist.
At 17 years of age she was raped by Agostino Tassi, an artist who collaborated on works with her father.
