... I don't like it as much as the other books.
The only likable character in this book is Sally, Darrell's best friend, who is a really good head-girl. And Daphne's development is quite interesting as well - in the beginnning, she is vain and selfish, but then she rescues Mary-Lou - so she can cancel out her bad deeds... And I like Belinda, a new girl in the second form, who is a talent artist and a scatter-brain like Irene - of course, the two of them become friends!
So why I don't like this book?
I think there are too many "baddies" - one new girl is taking advantage of mary-Lou (Mary-Lou helps her with her French). Besides, she is a thief and a liar, who is even ready to see an innocent girl being ... Read More:

This has become one of my favourite books. I've always loved the "witches" series and the "nac mac feegle" who appear in Carpe Jugulum invaded my brain, kicked a few bottles around and dossed down.
This is, as others have said, the third in the "Tiffany Aching" series. I admit I enjoyed the first, wasn't too struck with the second (to start with), but with this one Pratchett is back to his best. It hooked me from the start.
Pratchett's talent and skill is in the folklore and the facts which he uses in the books, the little things, like the old belief in summer and winter Gods, the laying out and sitting with the dead, etc. For me it is these small factual titbits that add to the story and make it more than your typical 'story ... My father used to read me the chronicals of narnia when i was about 5. I'd put the stories, however to the back of my mind, like most of us do when we leave our childhood behind. Then a couple of years ago when the lion, the witch and the wardrobe film was released, it set off thinking about those times, years ago. This year, with prince caspian due to arrive in the next week or so, i happened to mention to my girlfriend, sort of 'jokingly' that it might be fun to re-read the books again. Anyway, i turned 28 last week and was quite suprised to open the complete chronicals of narnia box set, my girlfriend had bought from amazon. At first i was hessitant to pick up the magicians nephew. I had so loved the stories when i was a kid of 5 and the anticipation of what would ... Read More:

The pictures in this book are designed to encourage children to talk about the book and predict what might happen next. The opening page shows a detailed scene, which introduces the main characters and vocabulary that appear in throughout the book. The book has essential style for early readers, simple straight forward sentences, large clear type, an easy to read font, repeated phases, lively humorous illustrations and a close match between pictures and words. It is part of a series of popular, traditional tales written in a simple way that young children can understand and read. `Goldilocks and the Three Bears' is a Read It Yourself Book; it is especially considered for children who are ready to take their first steps in reading.

This is just about the worst book I have ever read. The characters to me were about as lifless as rag dolls, The story line is about the most feeble out of any book I have ever read and over all I think it was very badly written and not worth purchasing.

I bought all 4 books from this collection, they are perfect for youngsters.
The pages are thick card, so not so easy to rip, bend or mutilate!!!
Any drool is easily wiped clean too :o)
Good little bedtime story books, with nice story, good colours & plenty of familiar faces from the TV progrm.

Did your copy have 187 pages? If it had more, I would very much like to know how your version finishes. I and others have commented on how Ms. Fitzgerald leaves a certain ambiguity at the end of some of her works. She invites her readers to finish the story based on what she has shared, or the reader has understood. This time around, I first felt I was reading a work like Dickens' unfinished, "The Mystery of Edwin Droid". However this time it was a bit abrupt, a door opens, the reader pops their head in, and, she decapitates the reader with an efficiency that Dr. Guillotine would have admired.
This is the fifth of her nine novels I have read, and it will be difficult to top this work. Everything I have read has been excellent, so the pleasure of reading ... Read More:

I bought this book on the strength of the other reviews and it did not disappoint. The illustrations are lovely, and I was delighted to see depictions of breastfeeding the new baby included.
