Beautifully illustrated book with a catchy tune. Sing it once, you'll find yourself "boogie woogie oogie-ing" all the time. My niece and nephew loved the song (though they preferred my terrible singing to singing it themselves) and dancing to the music.

In addition, the children in the book are of different races and one of the girls is a wheelchair user. Wonderfully inclusive book!

My mum used to read this to the 6-7 year olds in her class and told me they all loved it so much she turned it into a class project. All the kids drew pictures of their ideal pet with a flap to cover it. They made all the pictures into a book for the class. My 7 month old baby loves the book too. He giggles when the flaps open. Its a great book to read to babies and later on toddlers can interact by lifting the flaps.

Mr Gumpy's Outing

I like this book because Granny always reads it to us. My Gumpy takes a lot of animals in a boat and they all fall in the water. I fell in the water a lot today because me and Jack went down my slide into the paddling pool. It was funny.

We bought this book, published in 1971, when our 30 year-old was just 3 and it proved an enduring favourite for the whole family. It is one of the few books which our children insisted that we kept, even now, and one which we still catch them smiling at in their postgraduate gainfully employed maturity. The DVD might be good but little children deserve the fun of reading the book first with a grown-up to help them notice the delightful humour in the drawings. Don't hesitate - just buy it and enjoy it!

The Arrival is one of the most beautiful books I've seen for a long time. On the whole I steer nearer to the cartoon end rather than the fine art end of comics because my taste lies in the simplicity but because of the tone of the story being told, the art work is absolutely perfect. While that style is photorealistic and cinematic, it is so in a nostalgic and historical way in that the source materials seem to be turn of the last century photographs and newsreels. It gives us the sense of immigration in that time and it's important that that sense comes from that time because it's so much harder to migrate to a place that you have no means of being able to picture before you get there today with modern communications giving us visual access to ... Claire has a cut on her knee and she sets off home to tell her mum all about it but on the way she meets many friends and tells them weird and wonderful stories about how she came to have a bad knee including a crocodile attack, being kidnapped by a witch and a misdemeanour with a gorilla. It's a beautifully-illustrated, inspiring tale that will wet a child's imagination. A real joy to read.

If your little boy is as boyish as they come - he will absolutely adore this book.

The combination of pirate and dinosaur - the two favourites for many little boys - is inspirational. My 4 year old wont put this book down. If your boy is obsessed by T-Rex's and pirates then this book will be an incredible hit. Its not often I come across books that are so atune to my children's interests and imagination. An absolute must have - I just wish I had got it when he was 3 so he could have enjoyed it all the sooner!

I think this is a great first for your child on the subject of colors.. It contains the 4 essential colors, blue, red, yellow and green, each color has its own 2 pages with 2 different illustrations representing the colour, you also can learn the animal names from it too! added bonus. Do add this book to your collection.
