The Shopping Basket is a well written, humourous and intelligently written book, that a child can't help but return to time and time again to read with amusement awe and admiration for a fellow peer.
Steven is asked to run a simple errand by his mother. It invloves a trip to the local corner shop but on the way home... Steven meets a rich and varied range of animals demanding his shopping with menaces. After cunningly dealing with each animal in turn, he arrives home, but where his efforts appreciated?

I introduced my daughter to this book a month ago when she was 9 months old, and it is by far her favourite book. She crawls over to it and lobs other books out of the way to get to it, and then happily sits turning the pages and opening and closing the flaps, she can't get enough of it no matter what time of day it is, although we also read it every night before bed as well. We've had to buy a second copy as I know she's going to tear something soon, but to date it has withstood her vigorous opening/closing/page turning! I would highly recommend it.

I have twin girls. One adores this book for the beautiful stories and illustrations and the other who normally runs riot during story time cant get enough of duck spotting! Sounds strange but I take my hat off to the person who thought of hiding a little yellow duck on every page. AT last there is peace at story time and their ability to find socks, toys etc has improved too! I acquired this book second hand but would happily pay full price for another copy should our current one end in tatters.

This book is excellent. My brother-in-law bought this along with "The Bedtime Bear" as a Christmas present when my now almost 3 year old son was about 5 months old. The book got put away and forgotten about at the time as he was too young. We found the book last week and got it out as he is now big enough for it. I have never seen a reaction from him quite like this one! He loves reading anyway (always insisting on reading it himself) but this book is without a doubt his favourite. I have lost track of how many times he has read it since we got it out for him!
The tabs aren't very good for little fingers, but if you read it together you can 'help' and hopefully the book won't become too damaged.

Boy, did I hoot(sorry) at the couple of reviewers who rated this with 1 or 2 stars by over analysing and missing the point of this book. You idiots - KIDS LOVE THIS STORY. As a primary school teacher and father I can honestly say that this book rocks. Both my kids have loved this - the language used within does so much to engage and light the spark of reading in young children. They relate to the owl babies and bond with the reader due to the fantastic writing for little 'uns - top book.

This is a beautiful book. Not only does it deal with numbers up to 10, but the artwork is a superb illustration of an African village and its surrounding wildlife, with a wonderful surprise ending. My little boy's delighted smile when we re-discover no. 10 each time says it all.
