'Journey's End' opens in the bleak environment of the Western Front as a new arrival James Raleigh comes to join a group of soldiers in the trench system. The 'journey' on which the soldiers embark upon is contains two human attributes, the first being emotional attachment, the second being the power of perceiverance.

Sherriff does not need to go into the graphic details of what happens when the men 'go over the top', however he builds up a number of passionate friendships that both move and endear the reader. Be prepared for one of the most exciting page-turning reads you'll ever encounter. This book will grip you from the first page and not let you go until the end. It's the longest of the four Sally Lockhart books, but you won't notice the length as the plot just keeps going and thickening all the time.

As if that wasn't enough, in between the excitement there's also a wealth of incidental detail about social conditions in Victorian England, and especially about the rights (or lack thereof) of women.

York Notes books are an excellent choice for GCSE student, Advanced students or even Degree student like myself. This book explains everything you need to know about the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. It includes study methods, an introduction to the text, summaries of each chapter with critical notes, themes and techniques of the novel, textual analysis of key passages by an acknowledged literature expert, author biograpghy, historical and literary background, modern and historical approaches, a chronology and a glossary of literary terms. Excellent!

As an example of turgid, class-ridden, Victorian moralising, Water Babies has some historial interest. It is not a children's story and if used at all on minors, should be used solely as a punishment.

As I see it, Shakespeare's Othello is a play about the jealousy of one man, not Othello, but Iago. It is Iago's jealousy - of anyone who gets anything that seems better than that which he gets himself - which is the driving force of the play. And it is Iago's own jealousy which enables him to provoke the same feeling in others, to use them to his own advantage, or at least to their disadvantage (which to him seems to be almost the same thing). He expresses his sentiments at times throughout the play. One of the passages where it to me becomes most obvious is I.iii.382-394, and I will use this passage as my point of departure. So Sweet! A lovely read... I finished it within 2 days! A really good book that deserves to be on the bookshelf!

Remy has suffered many blows in life, romantically, emotionally and in her home life too. She has taken all her rules from her mother - whos on husband number 5. She has lived her life through rules and regulations. Then she meets Dexter, a musician, so he's definately off the list - or so it seems, Remy just can't seem to dump him. Although Dexter knows her better than she thinks, he is quite a bubbly chap and loves a good laugh as much as Remy does.

Then Remy tells her friend that Dexter is just a 'summer guy' and one for the holidays. Although she has had more boyfriends than many of us has had socks, she doesn't really ... Read More:
