I used this book along with animal tales to make the unit of 'Jesus' more accessible to children in a yr 1 class where religion is not a feature in the majority of their lives.
The humourous writing engaged the children, and the language was basic enough for the children to understand. I had them acting out several of the stories, which they loved! some children even chose to look at the books during free play and i have recommended the purchase of both books to the RE coordinator.

Since infants are more aware of contrast than color in the beginning, I 'read' this book with my daughter from the time she was four months old through about her first year. Cover to cover, I read the words (title and book description, which almost hypnotically became part of the experience!) and described the pictures, sometimes tracing them with a finger. Our interaction with the small book was cuddly and verbal, as the images served as guides. She had her favorites, and the book is well-worn, chewed in places. It was a daily gentle activity, holding her interest, obviously delighting and stimulating, and paved the way for more and more books. Personally I prefer it to the White on Black, and always give it as part of a gift packet ... Read More:

My daughter loves Maisy and friends and would choose to have this book read to her every night. On each page there are different weather scenes with movable flaps and sections that are great for little fingers to play with (under guidance). Some of the moveable parts have now been pulled too strongly, but have been repaired! The vibrant colours are great for small children and sound effects my husband makes whilst reading this, has added to the fun my daughter has with the book.

This book is a real treat for any Thomas fan in the little tank engine's 60th anniversary year. With a real cloth jacket in classic blue, silver gilding and embossing on the dust jacket. The captions inside are a nice touch too. Perfect for a christening or special birthday gift - I hope my godson will like it when a bit older!! This is limited edition too, so should prove highly collectible.

I bought all 4 books from this collection, they are perfect for youngsters.
The pages are thick card, so not so easy to rip, bend or mutilate!!!
Any drool is easily wiped clean too :o)
Good little bedtime story books, with nice story, good colours & plenty of familiar faces from the TV progrm.

I am assuming that the review below, copied from the `Comments' area of this item, was the original review that the other two reviews refer to - so well done to all who got it deleted from the system.
I couldn't agree more with these two reviews on this item - this is a blank baby book for parents to fill in, with photos and text, as their baby develops over those precious first 12 months.
What does puzzle me is the fact that it got a positive vote in the first place - unless the author is also guilty of voting for his own reviews which is quite possible given how his `helpful' votes whizz up - you only need to look back at the review pages to see how obtuse the subjects are and how suspicious the voting is, especially on items that ... I had this out of the Library for months, my son, barely a year at the time loved the pictures, above all. We bought this recently, apparently for 4 and above, my son, now 20 months has this book as a regular favorite for bed time. He loves the amazing illustrations of the train (I make train noises to go) and points to all the animals as we go through. I only have to say 'oi!, get off our train!' and he's found the book and demanding another read through.
As for political messages, John Burningham doesn't lay it on heavy but tells it how it is but in a way that kids can take it in without feeling they are somehow to blame. More and more material aimed at kids makes them aware of the state we are leaving the planet. As a child of the 70's I thought ... Read More:

I LOVED this as a child & now read it to my class of Year 1 children. It is such a heart warming story of a goose who was a "bit different". Lovely pictures and a great ending (I won't spoil it, you'll have to buy it).
Absolute classic - highly recommended.
