When Mog misbehaves at Debbie's birthday party, she skulks away in disgrace and falls asleep under the table. Her dreams lead us on a surreal journey through the alphabet, but all ends well when she awakes in time for Debbie's birthday trip to the zoo.
This is a great alternative to the usual 'A is for apple, B is for ball' type of alphabet books. The story keeps children involved and encourages frequent reading, whilst the wonderful illustrations mean that a number of unfamiliar words are painlessly absorbed into the child's vocabulary.

I'm nearing the end of a part time PGCE in primary Ed. 'Writing underControl' was well structured and useful while assignment writing. Thefirst chapter gives a brief overview of the development of teaching fromVictorian to present day,via the lifestory of a teacher.Contributors tothe book write about transcriptional and compositional strands, ESL,genretheory and other controversial new theories to literature Assessment ofwriting, and the last chapter titled 'meeting individual needs'givesexcellent examples of different children such as'those who write willinglybut with many errors', and 'those who write at length but with nocomittment'. Altogether this has been the most informative andstraighforward books for use on my course and I would ... Read More:

This book was originally bought with "I can draw people" as birthday presents for friends of my daughter. The response from the parents was so pleasing that I bought the book myself for my daughters birthday, and yes I had to agree with them, that not only does it help the child to grasp the basics of drawing animals, it also gave me the confidence to draw an animal when she requested so. Would recommend this book to any parent of young children who's drawing of a cat does not look much like one!!

My 17 month old some was given this book as a present which I'm happy about cause it is quite expensive for a book with only 5 pages!!!
I agree with the reviewer above regarding the ages this book is aimed at too. On the one hand the noises are VERY loud and make my normally gregarious little boy jump and look worried when they go off and the pop ups are quite fragile (I've already and to fix 2) which would make it more suitable for slightly older children, but at the same time, the rhymes are very simple with only 6 lines on each page which might not be enough to keep an older childs attention.
But the pictures are bright and fun and once my son gets used to the sounds (or I take the batteries out) I'm sure he'll ... Read More:

The book is was well written, with a light-hearted approach, and notes at the foot of each page written in a light, informal language. The layout is clear, bright, and uncluttered, with plenty of easily understood diagrams (clearly labelled and colourful). This comes across well, and should appeal to its target audience more than other stuffy textbooks or guides.

Wynne Harlen has done a great job with this book.
It is a comprehensive guide to teaching science in terms of; teaching and learning styles, assessment methods, use of resources and ICT to help childrens' learning, how best to use practicals (SC1) in science lessons, helping children to question and think scientifically for themselves, good cross curricular links.
I am a primary science specialist PGCE student at the moment, and was given a long list of course text books for science and didn't have a clue as to which one to choose. Take it from me, choose this one, as my copy is well thumbed after only 6 months of my PGCE course.
