After buying this book for friends' kids aged 3 and 4, I bought this for some older kids (age 7 and 9). But then I thought that they were too old for it. I shouldn't have worried.

The kids loved it and and competed to see how many poems they could recite on their own. And by the end of the week we were ALL saying "Don't! Don't! Don't do that!"

Brilliant!

When I opened this book it fell to the page of my favourite poem...."She walks in beauty" - Lord Byron, from then on I looked on in awe of the beautiful illustrations describing the wonderful poetry.

This is not just for adults, as I have shown and read some of the poetry to the children in school were I work, as they shared this lovely book. Actually ordering more to give as gifts.

I have just returned from mountain climbing in the Highlands of Scotland with a group of friends. This little book kept us a amused and entertained at great heights.

The poems are just spot on. They have clarity and innocence, but achieve a very real level of profundity through their simplicity. The imagery is wonderful and particular favourites include scratch card kids out on the cadge - the slug who orders a table for one and the life of a jellyfish stuntman.

Henderson is sophisticated and assured, and not afraid to touch on difficult subjects such as children's lack of confidence and the difficulties of explaining faith and the after life to children. At the same time he can be wickedly surreal, questioning ... Read More:
