Covering the "simple" topics of childhood, like love, animals, people, and war, this anthology offers a wide range of poems from the last century, either purposefully written for children or poems children ended up appreciating and enjoying. It also includes a very useful index of titles and first lines, an author index, and an illustrator index.
This is a book older readers may find more engaging because the font is smaller and there are few illustrations, but it contains a wealth of poems young readers would enjoy. It seems like the kind of book that warrants reading aloud to the younger readers.

This is a book you may often pick up and browse through, it's of a time when children were ALLOWED to be children and not be bothered with adult influences. A marvellous book for all young at heart!

I have always loved these poems. Elliot really managed to capture the personality of different cats in his different poems, which will sparkle out to anyone who has ever loved or owned a cat, a little bit of the Rum Tug Tugger here, a bit of Bustopher Jones there... cats to a tee, and wonderful fun! Buy a copy with Edward Gorey's fantastic illustrations, they really bring the poems to life. I'd also recommend this to future cat owners - heed the words of 'The Addressing of Cats' - you've got to treat cats with respect!

A selection of shape poems that early readers (6+) will love. It inspires children to be creative with word patterns and break out of the strictures of line by line writing. Great fun, if a little on the short side.

An excellent and succinct tool for teaching adults and children to grasp life and have fun. It also serves to diminish the impact of negativity from ourselves and others to ourselves and others.

On the surface One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, the third Beginner Book that Dr. Suss (Ted Geisel) wrote, might appear to be a book of merely counting, colours, opposites and other concepts. The book revolves around the motto of "funny things are everywhere", and the fish in different guises are but the welcome mat to this wild, weird world. The creatures and crazy situations in the book (Yink, Yop, Ying, Gack, Zans, etc) are designed to encourage readers to embrace the world in all its quirkiness and diversity, and there are small sentiments peppered throughout the book such as "These things are fun, and fun is good" and "If you wish to make a wish". This book may be plotless, but the theme of funny things and embracing the world help ... Read More:
