I was wanting a CD version to replace my old tape version of White Christmas. This CD was cheaper and contains all the old favorites on my tape, plus several more. Bing is such a great singer! Best value for money.

On this stately and sometimes sombre work, Joan Baez is backed by traditional instruments like recorders, viols, lute, pipe organ, strings and harpsichord. The intention was to make the sound reminiscent of the various periods in which the carols were written. Noel is thus completely different from her 1960s folk recordings with the prominent acoustic guitar.
Her voice is pristine and the arrangements outstanding, especially on tracks like Little Drummer Boy and Ave Maria (a classical arrangement, sung in German). The songs are interspersed with short instrumental like Good King Wenceslas, Bring A Torch, Deck The Halls, Angels We Have Heard On High and Adeste Fidelis, that add to the medieval mood of the album.
You think of many things when Christmas draws near, and if your anything like me, you will think of the Muppets. This cd is full of the spirit of Christmas with an extra helping of Muppet comedy for extra effect. With tracks like, "Christmas is Coming" and "Twelve days of Christmas" you just can`t go wrong. And although this is an imported disc, it works just fine on the cd players I use in England. If you like The Muppets and Like Christmas, what are you waiting for ? Buy it today !!

I can't believe that it's taken me 7 years to find this Christmas cracker!! There isn't a duff track on this one, The Dandy Warhols "Little Drummer Boy" is worthy of a special mention, brilliant!

It's been over 20 years since the analogue LP record of this album was 1st released. This is one of the earliest albums released by Windham Hill Records. I was only a teenager at that time, but since then I don't know how many times I've listened to this AMAZING piano solo collection. For those who are not familiar with Winston's works, his piano style is not classical or jazz, and it's not like popular 'mood' piano and certainly not like a 'hotel lounge' kind of piano either. The sound of Winston's piano is clear, atmospheric and has a certain 'calming' effect. I'd recommend this CD for anybody who wants to spend the Christmas time and the whole winter quietly. It'd be a perfect Christmas present. This latest version contains 2 extra tracks. Enjoy ... Read More:

Finally -- a Christmas album that doesn't include "Jingle Bells," "Joy to the World" or "Let It Snow." Instead, Loreena McKennitt looks back on an almost-forgotten time when Christmas was a sacred holy day, in the all-too-brief but very lovely EP "A Winter Garden."
It opens with the soothing, lullaby-like "Coventry Carol," before heading to the majestic catchiness of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and utterly enchanting "Good King Wenceslas," where a saintly king and his servant travel on foot to bring food and firewood to a poor woodsman's family. It's a beautiful little song, and the sprightly tune makes it even more so.
A smoother, softer tone comes in with "Snow," the musical adaptation of a poem by nineteenth-century ... Read More:

A good mix of songs and styles. This is more backing track than Karaoke so it wouldn't be suitable for a complete beginner as it sometimes takes some working out to find out where to sing. The lyrics leaflet is in very tiny print and in blue so not easy to read. The sound is good, though, and matches the original tracks quite well. There is no guide tune given - just the backing vocals (which I like but it doesn't suit everyone).
I have only used one track thoroughly so far (Walking in the air) and have found that, though the printed words match the original in terms of where to sing and where to take a break, the backing track doesn't!! As a singing teacher I was confident and able enough to work this out and put the break at a different part of ... Read More:

Christmas carols are usually sung in angelic, high voices, preferably by children. Not these. CTD singer's baritone gives a very unusual, but highly entertaining, somtimes solemn, sometimes genuinely funny twist to these yuletide classics. It may not be everyone's cuppa, but if you acquire the taste, you're in for a real treat.

Nearly all the pieces contained on this disc feature Britten himself, either conducting or in some other performing/ supervisory capacity. In addition, Decca producer John Culshaw's far-sightedness in recording works in stereo way back in the early 1950s means the label possesses a formidable array of gorgeously preserved and authoritative readings of Britten pieces, many of which have been cherry-picked to form this delightful entry into his world. Two popular orchestral pieces, The Young Person's Guide... and Simple Symphony, are included in their entirety (in what can for once be described in that oft-misused term, as 'definitive' recordings) and there are good, representative excerpts from several Britten operas, folksong arrangements and - of course - choral ...
