As a true Waltons fan I thought it my duty to purchase this DVD and so I recently did. One cannot help but make comparisons between the 'original' cast and the 'actual' cast in the series. Apart from the children and grandma Walton all characters are different and because the series' characters have had so much stronger presence the 'original' cast does not stand much of a chance of winning anyone over. The Baldwin sisters in this film look much more like sisters but one gets the feeling that they are less endearing.
Olivia in this film seems almost like a 'psycho', I am sorry if this seems harsh but at one stage John-boy appears almost frightened of her as she seems to be losing it. I wonder how she got through the original casting or perhaps the series' character ... Read More:

If you want to listen to a wonderful selection of choral music then you've found the right CD. The Schubert 'Ave Maria' and Mozart 'Laudate Dominum' are the highights of the CD for me, but every track is very enjoyable. Listening to this CD is guaranteed to provide the perfect antidote to the daily hussle and bussle. This CD never leaves the car and I often find myself pushing the button to reload it after a tiring day. Great music to relax to while driving home (or to keep calm while stuck in traffic!).

Nothing quite puts you in the festive mood like an old classic from Irving Berlin and with Blake's two versions of the song, it's double the fun. The first version is more classically inspired and in keeping with the original that we all know and love. The second version (festive mix) is much more up tempo but still has a wonderful sound, thanks to the unique harmonies and arrangements provided by Blake. The third song on the CD, In The Bleak Midwinter, is another Christmas favourite and really hi-lights the wonderful voices of the group members, not just as an ensemble but also as individuals.
They sing with such clarity and each vocal part combines to create a beautiful and almost breathtaking harmony and as with their other songs, they never have one voice more prominent ... Read More:

I might well write my previous review of this album anonymously - the theme-tune for the TV coverage of the London Olympics is NOT the Bacchanale from Glazunov's 'The Four Seasons', but the music which the late Ron Goodwin wrote for the film 'The Trap'. The two tunes share an exhilarating, wintry feel, but that is no excuse. Apologies to Ron, and to any readers misled by my error!

I've been listening to this every Christmas for the last eighteen years and haven't got tired of it yet. The bouncy, folky style of performing carols is much more to my taste than the more solemn choral recording of carols that you generally get.
This album has a nice mixture of carols, some well-known, some less well-known, some merry and some quiet, but all beautifully performed. I have yet to find another christmas collection that I like better than this one. If this doesn't put you in the mood for Christmas, nothing will.

I would disregard the first review of this CD and skip straight to the second. This CD is wonderful. For those that want a more traditional, classic Christmas this is the one to get. Sit by a roaring fireside under the twinkling lights of the christmas tree, mulled wine in one hand, mince pie in the other and this music playing in the background. Truly magical!
My favourites on the 2 CD's (bargain!) are Dean Martin's "It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas", Louis Armstrong's "Zat you Santa Claus" and Frank Sinatra's "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas".
The quality of the music is as good as you can get when the recordings are so old. It's not crackly and inaudible however, just full of charm.
You really can't go wrong purchasing this! ... Read More:

Bought this to add some Christmas cheer to the office... we ended up playing "spot the Christmas connection" !! Is a bit like those cheap LPs we used to buy that covered the latest pop records....
