This recording of the Cambridge Singers has them recording pieces composed by their own director, John Rutter. The Magnificat is Rutter's version of a standard piece of liturgical music, an intersection of old and new. This was recorded at one of the Cambridge Singers' favourite venues, the Great Hall of University College School, London; the Requiem was recorded in 1986, and the Magnificat in 1991.
--Music-- 'The Magnificat' is one of my favourite pieces of the liturgy, and one I enjoy hearing set to different kinds of music. This is a very lively and spirit-filled rendering, with magnificent vocals expressing the joy that is found in the prayer of Mary - 'My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my saviour'. ... This is a BRILLIANT soundtrack and just as good as the first with the memorable theme tunes of the organ playing DAVY JONES, the satanic monstrous KRAKEN and the tuneful, boingy theme of the guy we all love JACK SPARROW. There's also plenty more music from the film (which did I forget to mention is AMAZING only second in my opinion to the STAR WARS SAGA) such as the music accompnying the brilliantly choregraphed sword fight on the island leading to the giant wheel and much more. However I agree with the previous review (that you may have read also) that the 'remix', the last track on the CD is absolutely AWFUL and I can't express this enough, its TERRIBLE, its DRAB, ITS THE WORST TRACK OF MUSIC I'VE EVER HEARD and does not fit in with the other music AT ... This is one of the best versions of Mozart's masterpiece presently available in DVD. Its greatest attraction is obviously the presence of Renée Fleming and Bryn Terfel. Ms Fleming's interpretation of Donna Anna is truly exceptional: the candor and purity of her voice make a perfect expression of the pain and suffering of that noble woman who's father has been killed by the man who tried to rape her. Bryn Terfel is undoubtely a great singer, but he is not a credible Don Giovanni. His voice lacks that touch of evil that makes of the Don the seductor that everybody admires and fears at the same time, specially when he seduces Zerlina and sings below Donna Elvira's balcony. Mr. Terfel's physical appearance is the other factor that prevents us from believing that ... Read More:

This is the revived version of the classic 'Oliver' musical that was based on 'Oliver Twist' by Dickens. It is a triumph! I absolutely love it! With music that lifts you up and stirs the emotions. We are invited to follow Oliver, a small timid orphan, on his journey in search of love. Along the way we meet such wonderful characters as Fagan (played by Jonathan Price), the artful dodger, Nancy(played by Sally Dexter) and the terrifying Bill Sykes (played by the wonderful Miles Anderson). It is truley a heart warming story that is told so beautifully as only music could! It is like one of those films that you can watch over and over again - each time you listn to it you find something new and wonderful! Don't let faffy school productions put you off such a beautiful musical! ... Read More:

A jolly collaboration this, with MK evidently enjoying a chance to explore his Notting Hillbillies side. With the exception of the very last track written by MK, these are all covers of Don Gibson era type tunes and the whole set hangs together most satisfyingly. The recording's a peach too.
