This movie is worth buying for the amazing special effects and for the stunning scenes of post-apocalyptic New York. Will Smith puts in a solid performance as (almost) sole survivor of the 'zombie' plague, ably supported by his canine co-star. The first hour or so of the movie is fast-paced and dramatic as the story unfolds. Unfortunately, it then moves down a gear or so, loses its way, and almost peters out with a most unsatisfactory and unresolved ending. A missed opportunity, as a little further development of the story would have made such a difference.

This film is 'I Am Legend' in name only, it bears very little relation to the book of the same name. This aside, it is a fairly good movie with post apocalyptic themes and a storyline that will keep you interested for the 96 minutes duration. Will Smith plays the role of the relationship starved army medical researcher well. You really feel for him when he talks to mannequins and at his relationship with his dog. The action is pretty good, although the computer graphics left a lot to be desired, both the various animals and the 'dark seekers' seemed very dated compared to other computer graphics films. I have not written a review for quite some time and after reading and hearing some of the negative criticism about this film i felt i had to give my opinion after watching it last week. In fact i almost didn't watch it based on some of the complaints i heard, such as: "The C.G.I. monsters are awful and really fake looking", "The ending sucks", erm yeah and that's about it, I don't think I've heard an other issues with it.
SO, first of all this is not a typical action film, the Initial scenes echo loneliness and desolation, and I felt these scenes were truly amazing to behold, evoking sadness and compassion, seeing the wild-life roaming free in a once never sleeping city and the plant life breaking it's way through the concrete is truly breathtaking and allows ... A 10 year old, a 34 year old and a 41 year old throughly enjoyed this film. Funny, feel good, original and very well done. Would recommend buying it.

just bought a toshiba 1080p 37" lcd tv and samsung blue-ray player this was my first blue-ray disc the picture colour detail and sound is outstanding even my other half who thinks a tv's a tv you no what i mean was impressed so its got to be good cant wait to add more blue-ray discs to my collection

This film is absolutely abysmal. They know i giant storm is out there but those fish just have to be caught. The moments of sentiment between the fishermen and their wives are utterly unconvincing and when the storm finally arrives its a complete disappointment. I love extreme weather conditions (in particular large waves) and was hopeful of at least some good effects and late drama in an otherwise hopeless film but even the perfect storm itself was a disappointment. The camera flicks from a computer generated wave to a boat where it looks like stage hands are just throwing buckets of water over the cast the back to the CGI rubbish and so on with occasional corny lines and cast member dying to mix it up. The opening sequence of this film includes arial shots of an American city in which a church spire is dominated by two much taller skyscrapers belonging to the chief businesses there. Visually, this sums up one of the important themes of the play, how material values in Verona have become more important than spiritual ones. There are many more ways in which this film intelligently translates Shakespeare's words into pictures. Particularly enjoyable is the way in which, at the Capulet's party, all the major characters play a symbol of themselves: Tybalt is a devil, Lady Capulet is Cleopatra, Mercutio is a transvestite, Juliet is an angel, and though Romeo begins as an astronaut, he ends up looking far more like a knight in shinning armour. I watched this film twice in the hope of understanding really what the purpose was of actually making it? There are so many holes that can be picked in it from start to finish that I really can't "get it"? Skipping over everything and going directly to where Travolta is called into help Nielsen interrogate the prisoner I assumed it was by the ending to do with the drugs.But I also had to wonder how some guns miraculously had dummy ammo but others not? The ending was just too smart for itself, I can't pretend to say I know what it was/when it was? It was plain daft.Not a single reviewer can say he/she knows what the ending reflects. This is a 'gay' movie for straight people. One of those one's that reminds everyone 'we're people too'. The two main characters are women so we can accept them being drag queens more than if they were men. The gay characters infuriated me. Shallow, vapid, air-heads who can decorate fabulously, darling. All the usual clichés were there. One of the gay guys stands in drag looking ridiculous and says to his straight brother 'you have to accept the parts of me that make you feel sick to your stomach'. Its painful viewing.
It is a funny camp movie but don't be expecting anything more. You won't find it.
