From knowing the guys and the crew of the trip personally I can say that the swearing and the lack of talking in certain scenes are entirely justified. People who buy this expecting some kind of highly informative documentary will not find it here and shouldnt expect that for the basic truth is that this was to be viewed only as a record of their trip and one worth watching. The DVD itself shows all the series from start to finish with a number of extras that were not on the original showing versions of the series. The extras include a number of scenes that were not included in the original BBC screening of the series which was a shame since they contain some highly humours antics from the two.
Finally I believe that for this amount of ... Read More:

(I wrote this review back in 2004 and only found it again recently)
Before I start on this review, let me tell you that I am a relatively new fan of star wars, so my opinions may be slightly different than those loyal fans who have been with these movies from the very begining.
I saw this film a few days after watching the original trilogy, and although I still prefer the original, I think this is amazing too. It is incredible to see Annakin Skywalker as that little innocent boy, and unnerving to remember what he becomes. It goes to show how even the most evil villains began life as a normal person. They weren't born evil.
The plot is interesting, and I think the acting is pretty good. But my favourite thing about ... Read More:

The atmosphere on this trip seems completely different from the Long Way Round trip.
Although the trip is supposed to be the length of Africa it starts from John O'Groats in Scotland and they ride through all of Europe before getting to Africa. It's no wonder they spent the whole trip trying to meet deadlines. IMO the trip should have started in North Africa.
I suppose hindsight is 20/20 vision.
In fairness the scheduling problems and many personal conflicts between all involved aren't glossed over in the series. You could argue too much time is spent analysing them, rather than showing the continent they were travelling through.
The stars of the series are the people of Africa, helping the travellers when they needed it, inviting ... Read More:

as someone from Edinburgh who lived and went to plenty of the places mentioned in Trainspotting i have to say read the book the book instead which has the full content and message rather than just a comic short hand for what was happening at the time. It made fashionista fools think that taking hard drugs was a nice activity and gave them kudos and brought in too many people too Edinburgh looking for that lifestyle.
I have never managed it all the way through and think it is just an alternative advert for Britain for the naively trendy or people who misguided enough to think that the pathos and dark humor wasn't there to balance the story...great cast though and on the whole well acted but an overrated footnote to late 90's Britain

This was the most embarrassing mess from Tim Burton. It should be deleted from his CV very quickly. It was so bad I thought that Ron Howard made it.
Synthetic rubbish. The story was like someone from Deliverance pitched a fairy tale to Walt Disney. I'm ashamed to have rented it, I felt like vomiting after it ended.

black hawk down is based on actual events thus it is quite fictional in many parts. also it is throughly biased in which you are made to feel sorry for the americans who get killed(only 18) while the somalies are made to be shown as sub-human(more than 1000 somalies lose thier lives). on doing research into the conflict in somalia i learnt that it also has to do with oil just like iraq.
a 'good' war movie which pushes the american foreign policy and agenda.
i would like to see a movie of black hawk down from the somalian side if that will be possible.
