I watched this with my girlfriend and she (like a lot of women I hear) was in floods of tears.

Call me a "typical bloke" if you will, but I was not emotionally drawn into it. I didn't see any chemistry between Swank and Butlers characters so never really bought their relationship. I thought Swanks character had better chemistry with that of Connick Jrs.

Anyhow, it's an ok film with some funny moments - had the casting been a bit better I too may have had a tear in my eye

This movie makes you relax, makes you want to travel, to have fun. It is one of the best movies i have ever seen. Drinks, women, friendship, drama, it has everything. I recommend you watch it right before you go on a trip, preferably to the seaside, it can be a great "guidebook" for parties. When i have a good time, i can't help it and i think about "Cocktail", the one word that can best describe what you feel when you see the movie, and after that when you think about it is "If you want it, life can be fun" ; OK, maybe there are more words. I bet that after you see it you'll want to go with your friends, walk on the beach, drink something, in short, have a memorable night.

I adore this movie! I first saw it about 17 years ago when I was 15. I was staying in my best friends house and we rented out this movie because we both had a crush on Andrew McCarthy! Anyway we watched it three times in 24 hours!!
I can't tell you why I loved it so much, but I think I could relate to Andie (Molly Ringwald's character) at the time because I liked to be my own person, not a clone. One of the main reasons that I love this movie is DUCKIE! I love him, yes I fancied Andrew McCarthy at that time (I want to stress AT THAT TIME,NOT NOW!) but when I watch this film, it's Duckie I want Andie to be with and who I would have chosen myself! Nick cage and john travolta are a great paring in this movie the casting crew did a great job, The story is a little bit simplistic but otherwise its great film with plenty of twists and a happy ending. Its the sort of movie you can watch time and time again and stil be entertained by the line "i want to take his face off" it brings a smile to my face just typing it! A good all rounder.

If I could give this 0 stars I would. I seriously can't understand why anyone would give this 5 stars! Ok fine, it's good to see a mainstream lesbian film but the main characters are just plain annoying and the plot is ridiculous. I was cringing the whole way through.

Even Kyle McLauchlan distanced himself from his role in this movie. It is nearly as bad as watching the last hour of Casino. The whole movie is trying to be something else - Studio 54, Thelma and Louise, and other Kings of the B grade. If you are getting this for the sexual content, best avoid and head for the adult section.
