This is a roadtrip film in the truest sense of the word. Three drag queens are driving across the Australian desert in a bus, to a gig in Alice Springs. All are gay - but some more `gay' than others. Mitzi is the most macho of three, with a secret wife and an even more secret child, Felicia is young, camp, and outrageous. And Bernadette? She's the straight laced ex-famous show-girl.
No doubt it has been said before, but this is a voyage of discovery for our three camp friends. The dynamic between them provides the energy for the film. With Felicia rubbing Bernadette up the wrong way, and Mitzi struggling with his inner demons - you can't help but watch to see what happens.
Along the journey they meet several people, ... Read More:

Some films have an intriguing premise but don't deliver on it. Christopher Nolan's Memento delivers in spades!
The story of a man searching for his wife's killer but unable to retain any short term memories is obviously intriguing.
Nolan adds twists by telling the story in reverse and having our "hero" aid his memory with tatoos and instant photos.
By the end of the film the viewer's head is spinning and we don't know what to make of the previous 90 minutes. Thank God for rewind buttons on DVD remotes!
The film is about memory. Nolan brilliantly plays with the viewer's own memory. At first we feel sympathy for Leonard, trying to piece together enough information from his disabled memory to get revenge ... Read More:

This was on TV last night, and I nearly didn't watch it, due to the mixed reviews it has received. In the end, I thought I might as well, and am actually quite glad I did. Yes, the reason why the time machine gets created is clichéd and really quite unnecessary, and the story does move away from Well's novel, but I didn't really mind, to be honest, as the idea of the old world order coming to an end, due to the moon's demise, is actually quite interesting. The acting is sound across the board, with Guy Pierce and Jeremy Iron's, in a cameo on this occasion, on good form. The real star of the show is, of course, the Time Machine itself, and it's well realized, capturing the spirit of the nineteen century, with all it's brass instruments, cog wheels, and ... Read More:

Curtis Hanson has managed to direct a film which captures the late 1940's in both style and spirit. Often films depicting the glamourous side of this era immerse themselves too much in the styles and fashions of the time, rendering the actual characters superfluous to the movie. Not here though - the characters drive the film, blending in perfectly with the directing style swaying effortlessly to capture the gritty and the classic-Hollywoodesque, the guy has done his homework.
Risks were taken by casting relatively unknown non-Americans in the two major roles, a rare thing by a Hollywood studio. It's hard to imagine anyone else but Russell Crowe as the fiery `Bud' and at times Guy Pierce seems a bit awkward as `Exley' - but this isn't a flaw in his acting, ... Read More:

I enjoyed this movie and thought it was well acted. It does take enourmous liberties with the book and the ending is completely different to the book! the book is bittersweet whilst this did gloss over the darker aspectsof the book.

"Memento" is a film which requires several viewings to appreciate it properly. It has a reverse narrative a la "Mulholland Drive" and "Irreversible" (it probably inspired both of them) and it is gripping from start to finish. The film is about Lenny (Guy Pearce) ,who has been suffering from severe short term memory loss since the rape and murder of his wife. He can recall the details of his life up until this incident, but nothing since it; his memories of people and places fade away in seconds, like the proverbial goldfish in a bowl. As he tries to hunt down his wife's killer , he uses Polaroids, Tattoos and Post-Its to remember key facts and people, but his condition leaves him open to deception and manipulation. The plot is complex and intelligent, the acting excellent ... Read More:

I really don't understand how people can be so malicious about this movie. I was hesitant about watching it as I thought it looked good, but I really wasn't a Miller fan. But having watched it, I honestly loved it. I'm not saying it couldnt be improved, because couldn't everything? But I thought Sienna, Hayden and Guy were really good, I loved the used of music in the film which helped put it in the era it belonged, costumes were great and I generally really liked it, people criticise that it blames Warhol for Edie's demise, but honestly, they weren't there and neither was I, so we can't judge, although Andy was known to be kind of manipulative, and the same people also say Guy Pearce acted him brilliantly. I'd also like to say that my two best friends were sceptical, both telling ... Read More:

I found this film very moving and emotional. the beauty of these magnificent tigers is true greatness of the big cat family. the film opens with the two young tiger cubs and leads on to what happens to them when they become separated from there parents. the male is shot dead and the mother fakes her death and gets away. it shows just how cruel and heart-less mankind is to these animals. it is a great and very beautiful film. the real stars of course are the tigers and at the end the brothers are re-united with there mother a very moving and beautiful array of colour that these tigers have I recommend this film for all animal lovers and the beauty of tigers in general

On paper this should be great but I couldn't even get past two thirds of the way through, so pointlessly drawn out was it in some attempt at the quality of an epic. The setting and some of the detail is great but the plot lacks the resonance with me to carry off the portentous tone of the film. The gang of Whites'n'Abos outlaws being sought by Ray Winstone seem to represent some model of racially-integrated cohesion whose brand of ruthless brutality trumps (at least for a while) the nasty racist unhip colonial authorities represented by Ray. I suppose this kind of romantic view of malign outsiders is one that would be held by the writer, that darling of the quality colour supplements, Nick Cave.
Get the soundtrack record instead - magnificent stuff.

Having read the other reviews I rented this last week and wished I hadn't, the plot seems to be missing its beginning and its ending (don't be fooled into thinking its about werewolves) and the soundtrack was so iritating I considered watching with the sound off!
I stuck it out as there are a few good moments and I kept hoping it would get more interesting. I definately expected more as Robert Carlyle and David Arquette have both made some good films but this was not one of them.
