This is a very, very good TV show. If you have never seen it, it is definitely worth buying for the (very low) Amazon price.
I find myself loving this series an inordinate amount, probably against my better judgement. But its charm and wit are more than enough to mostly obscure its faults.
It is wonderfully shot. The tone is dark and moody with the characters often shot in silhouette and I love the way in which the set, car and props seem dusty and used. Unlike many current TV shows everything is not clean and characterless and sanitized. It is this that partly makes the show believable. It does not take place in the bright lights of the modern city with its shiny labs and FBI offices but in the more timeless diners ... Read More:

Deadwood puts all the other stuff to be found on the telly way into the shade...in fact it kicks the rest into crapdom. The dialogue here is excellent, the story-lines are believable, intelligent and clever, and the suspense kicks in from the beginning. The characters are superb, human, real. Someone here has made a lot of effort to get things right and should be commended for their work. I will repeat myself here....the dialogue, the script, is excellent. If I could give this 6 or more than 5 stars I then would. Brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliant. Thank you Mr Milch.

What I like about this movie very much is the beautiful location and the fact that it is not an action-packed movie. Instead the story unfolds very slowly. It is the type of movie where you need to listen carefully to the conversations and also read a bit between the lines at times. The film has got some funny bits in it, which is nice, but if I had to use just one word to describe it then I would say atmospheric. A movie to watch if you feel like relaxing. The guitar piece in the middle of the movie is also very nice.

If you liked Basic Instinct, you'll most definatly love Sliver. Sharon Stone plays Carly Norris a divorcee who is on the road back to an exciting life. She moves in to a new apartment building in New York which the locals call Slivers. On arrival, she finds that she looks very similar to a woman who had died in the same apartment months before. As she settles in she meets Zeke Hawkins (Alex Baldwin) the sexy man of the building whom she becomes very closely involved with and Jack Landsford (Tom Berenger) From the moment Carly moves in she is closley watched and as she gets closer to discovering the voyeur, she gets closer to her fantasies. Not the best work Sharon Stone has done, but it's a good film with good supporting cast!

I haven't seen this film in years - which I do appreciate might devalue my credibility as a reviewer. However, even having seen the film only once, I consider it one of the best films I have ever seen.
Artistically, the whole cast performed extremely well. As would be expected of actors such as Kevin Spacey, Laura Linney and Kate Winslet, the story was told in an understated and moving manner. However, it is the story itself which makes this a masterpiece. On the surface it was a crime-thriller tale, which didn't patronise or bore the viewer with a predictable outcome - a rarity itself in Hollywood. It's clear underlying intention was to highlight the flaws in America's Death Penalty punishment laws, and the message was powerful.

Set in the mind 1980s, In Country is the story of a Vietnam veteran left behind by life and a daughter curious about a father she never met. Willis is quite superb in this slow, but very moving story of ordinary people and how they were - and continue to be - affected by the war. Jewison maintains a low key until 10 minutes from the end when Willis's character, Emmett, finally confronts his niece, Sam, with the reality of war - at the same time confronting his own sense of loss - for his friends and for his own life ever since the war. From this scene you know you're being set up for a very moving (yet unsentimental) ending, as Emmett and Sam visit the Vietnam memorial in Washington, and if you aren't in tears at the end, you probably don't have a heart. Jewison's ... Read More:
