Shirley valentine is a great film in which a married woman, who has children living away from home becomes involved in a life alone and bored at home as a house wife. Her husband wrapped up in his own world of going to work, coming home and waiting for his tea. Shirley goes back to remembering the good old days her and husband use to have and now this alone dose not keep her from searching for something more happier and exciting. So this takes on a jourany were shirley goes to greece to find her old self and her once youth. This film really makes you feel for shirley but also its true meaning that you dont have to travel to get back your happines. A delightfull film that wil leave you in tears of sadness and tears of happiness as shirley and ... Read More:

Watched this a few years back but couldn't get on with the animation style. It was bought as a present for my 4yo who loves it. On re-watching I didn't have the same animation prejudice simply because Tim Burton has made it more 'acceptable'. Shallow of me I know but there you go.
The Aunts are fantastic in the 'real-life' section although I couldn't get on with the boy. Pete Postlethwaite still gives me the creeps (although that's from the Sharpe TV series rather than this film).
In the animated section the bugs are all pretty good and the boy gets better.
The songs are OK but I didn't find them particularly catchy.

I really didn't like this film. I found it a bit boring and overall a bit too cheesy. It was a disappointment because the book was so good. Usually if I like a film, I watch it more than once but this one I really didn't want to see it again. I would rather read the book again. Maybe this film just wasn't my cup of tea, it may be good for other people.

Set in the Devonshire village of Clatterford, Jam and Jerusalem depicts a slightly barmy but ultimately caring bunch of ladies, all members of "The Guild". A terrific cast of Sue Johnston,Joanna Lumley (how can we forget Delilah!),Dawn French et al make these characters so vivid and believable. A huge amounts of laughs and not a little pathos make these episodes watchable over and over again.

Watched this a teenager back in the '80's.
British television drama at its best.
This is a quirky, funny production, filled with wonderful acting by a plethora of British stars, headed by a young Kate Beckinsale. Timeless.
If you like off-beat comedy drama, rent this.
Yea how come usa australia and canada can get the whole dvd box set including the christmas specials when the uk (which is the country of origin of the show) cant get the box set "Absolutely Fabulous - Absolutely Everything"!!!!
I give the show 5 stars and I think the whole 9disc dvd box set should be out in the UK asap

I'll try and be brief with this review, when the new avengers came out it was UNFAIRLY PANNED by the "critics"i can only assume they were still pining for the georgous mrs.peel and all things which were 60's.To be fair series one is superb (as good as anything from the original avengers)series 2 is weak(er)but this was down to fall outs with the production crew and tv studios and the filming having to be moved to canada. This set is worth buying for series 1 alone, the chemistry is there especially between gambit (the late gareth hunt) and purdey (joanna lumley....LEGEND AND NATIONAL INSTITUTION)my own favorite episodes are target (it's the one per cent that kills you) and sleeper(watch for joanna in the shop window). There you go,nice and brief,if you ... When ex-RAF fighter pilot Reginald Conyngham-Jarvis (Albert Finney) and former milkman Roy Southgate (Tom Courtenay) both become widowers within minutes of each other, an unlikely bond between them begins to form. Both men are from the opposite side of the social spectrum, Reginald, verbose, and self confessed womaniser, nevertheless less fond of his late wife, no idea of domesticity, and Roy the dedicated husband, never looked at another woman, more outwardly gentle and caring, both begin to share the same house, the formation of an "odd couple" type of scenario.
The theme behind the relationships of this touching, superbly acted drama, based on Angela Lambert's novel, is both characters providing to the other what each person badly needs. ... Read More:

Realistically, Joanna Lumley has never been more than a lightweight in the acting profession. Where "Sensitive Skin" failed for me is in the fact that Lumley never seems to sit comfortably in the role, ergo I felt she was acting (a little uncomfortably at times!). "AbFab" was brilliant because Lumley lived the part so totally and so believably. Even so, and as I've been secretly in love with the girl since the '60's (whence came Purdey in "The New Avengers"), I'm honour bound to give 5 stars.
