I have recently discovered modern British comedy, and I am a HUGE fan of comedies like Shameless, Phoenix Nights, Max and Paddy's road to nowhere, Extras and The office. This comedy was recommended to me based on my opinion on Shameless, which I think is the best TV-show ever. However, "Gavin and Stacey" doesn't even get close to any of the shows mentioned. To me, it seems "stiff", very "acted" and WAAY to sweet. The character Nessa is a bit funny, and rescues it from being a complete disaster, but in general I find the rest of the cast quite boring or even repulsive. (Couldn't stand the smiley doll Stacey.)I was very disappointed.

What a fantastic comedy, Britain has been lacking a good heart warming comedy for years and now its here Gavin and Stacey,What a fantastic bunch of characters from Smiffy and Ness to Gav's mum and Dad, I bet everyone knows a family or a character they can relate to,I know i do!!!
Its the type of programme you can watch again and again and you will pick up on a few puns you missed before. Cracking highly reccomended and the 2nd series does not let you down just like the 1st.Watch it...

Johnny Depp plays a detective who is addicted to Opium.While spaced out he has dreams that have a habit of coming true.He sees faces and events involved in murders that he later has to investigate.The film tells the story of Jack the Ripper and gives a very believable account of a Royal being involved,along with freemasons and elements within the Police force trying to cover up a scandal that would lead straight back to the Queen.There is some bad language,a touch of nudity,a lot of violence,cleverly handled, but i think the 18 Cert is a little harsh.Both my wife and myself thoroughly enjoyed this film and we highly recommend it.

Golding was fascinated with what happens when a group of humanity is thrown on their own, isolated from other humanity and forced to recreate their own society. He studied this in Lord of the Flies, and in a great way in the sea trilogy that this film is based upon.

This is definitely one of my favourite films of all time. It surely ranks up there with the very best British films like Four Weddings, The Full Monty, Saving Grace and Billy Elliot. I have lent my rather battered copy of the video to several friends, all of whom were delighted with it. I'd recommend it to anyone with a sense of humour who wants to see a funny film with real heart. I love the constant fund-raising efforts by local groups which just go on in the background (like a Giles' cartoon), and the frequent references to 'poor little Bethan Bevan'! The funniest moment for me, though, is where she leaves her father carelessly plonked on the edge of the bed after he's had his stroke, and he just slides off onto the floor! Wonderful! Miss Julie [2000]

Miss Julie is a seriously excellent adaptation. Some might dislike its very stagey feel, but with the amount of utterly uninteresting plays I've seen lately, I could not have been more pleased! With only 3 proper characters (although we might add the silent presence of the Count), a set basically consisting of one room and some very intense dialogue, it's a very claustrophobic film.

Saffron Burrows is quite spectacular, carrying the emotions of Miss Julie magnificently. And Julie is a pretty emotionally unstable gal! The passion, the anger and the vulnerability all explode onto the screen (the bird-scene is just pitch perfect) and leave Mullan, to be frank, a little behind. Still, his performance is subtle, even if it does not quite match Burrows'.

The Lost World [2001]

The BBC's 2002 version of Arthur Conan Doyle's oft-imitated The Lost World is better than most (not saying much considering the low budgets and abysmal special effects of most versions over the past half century) but it still takes plenty of liberties with the source material. Bob Hoskins' irritable Professor Challenger and James Fox's Professor Summerlee are faithful enough, but once again a new female character has been written into the story for purely demographic reasons in the form of Elaine Cassidy's daughter of Peter Falk's missionary, though this does at least allow the script some contentious discussion of Creationism vs. Darwinism to help stake its claim to a higher intellectual plateau than its cheap-and-cheerful rivals. I enjoyed watching this movie. The topic is really nice, there is love everywhere...
The sole problem may be that we are going trough to many stories... they should have choosen less stories.
I will watch it again as I am in really good mood after it. Enjoy!
