i was on the verge of buying this film, thinking it would be a good and powerful story well acted by Paul Walker, however it appeared on the tv so i jumped at the chance. Now I'm very happy I didn't waste any money. This was a dire and slow story that started nowhere and finished at exactly the same place. I cannot believe this film was actually released to be bought on DVD. A waste of time and an example of how bad the acting of some good actors can actually get.

Judging by prior reviews this movie appears to polarise people entirely into those who felt it was a masterful creation unjustifiably slated by the critics and those who felt it was pointless, derivative and woefully devoid of script or characterisation.

I found it to be the latter. Which is truly surprising given that I like combat movies and Bruce Willis.

Although I persevered to the end and to some extent the movie does improve, in all honesty Tears of the Sun lost me within the first 20 minutes. There is no attempt to set the scene, explore the key characters or provide any background to the conflict. A fast moving, gripping monster flick. The script is predictable, but the acting and special effects are very good indeed. I don't think I have seen Johnny Messner before but he is a personable character and I shall look into his other offerings. The rest of the cast were also unknown to me, but I love seeing new talent and none of these young people disappointed.
There are loads of white water and thrills.
Well worth a viewing.

Absurd script, cheesy scenes, low budget, seedy location... It's a ridiculous story that takes off on scientology, Jonestown, and Heaven's gate with a bit of Invasion of the Body Snatchers tossed in. A friend who was suffering with me asked: "Can we change the channel?" I only sat through it because I wanted to see if there was going to be anything to redeem it and so I could write this review.

There wasn't; I'm writing, save your time and money.
