Russell Crowe gives arguably a career best performance as mathematician John Nash, who has schizophrenia. The visual hallucinations of his illness are depicted as real both for Nash and us, while the paranoid elements are given with just the right amount of off-key madness yet retaining (for Nash) a degree of reality. Crowe also portrays well the personality of Nash in his illness, for example his obsessive need to find patterns and break codes. I am looking forward to reading the book on which the film is based, and would recommend the film to everyone with even a passing interest in flawed genius.

I'm almost embarrassed that I thought it was good when I was a kid. Because I was too young to understand the bad points and let's face it, we don't have high demands of quality when we are young. I thought power rangers had good acting then... riiight moving swiftly on.
Anyway I watched it again a year or so ago when it was on TV and realised just how innocent I must have been.
Not only is this film crap, but its pro American theme that is used to carry the story really made me cringe... HARD.
Its like a serious version of Team America. I'm sure the point of this was to have Americans coming out of the "Movie Theatre" (Cinema to you and I) jumping up and down with their lassoes screaming YEAH!!! YEAH!!!. But what ... Read More:

I already owned this film on DVD and loved it. I bought the Blue-ray edition to get even more out of such a great film. What Amazon don't tell u is that this edition is an edited version which in reality is 9 minutes shorter than my DVD version. My one star rating is purely based on another money spinning project....... no doubt in a year or so we'll get the Blue-ray Directors cut coming out. Unfortunately for me i couldn't return it as I never watched it as soon as it arrived.

A well-constructed and well-acted film, based on the situation of a family in constant fear of detection by the FBI. The reason? The parents were involved in the bombing of a laboratory researching napalm, in 1971. A security guard was blinded in the attack and they have been fugitives since then, constantly changing locations, jobs, schools for their two children, who are drilled in their new names, backgrounds etc every few months. The boys are also schooled in how to spot and evade surveillance. The family have fallback rendezvous points just in case...the "whole nine yards" of terrorist/espionage tradecraft, really. They are assisted by The Network, the remnants of their late Sixties/early Seventies underground group.

Was moved sufficiently by this film to write a small review. Was especially moved by Timothy Hutton's character - what an intense performance - utterly believable and sometimes painful to watch. Whatever happened to Mr Hutton? I was terrifically moved by Donald Sutherland's early morning monolgue at the dining room table... I defy anyone to watch this film and remain unconcerned by what the outcome may have been.
On the down side, it was a little overdramatic - which ate into the authenticity of the characters and the story. The flashback scenes were a little unbelievable and not particularly well shot. These are the reasons that caused me to give it only 4 stars as opposed to 5. However, only a few small negative points.. not too much to worry about and ... Read More:

Season 3 and the series just keeps getting better. Good plots, great acting and lots of twists and turns. My favourite of the 3 seasons so far.

I barely remember Taxi whenit was shown on BBC2 ages ago,but i had been
following it on Paramount Comedy channel untill now,and enjoyed it immensely.
Now,finally Taxi has been granted a Region 2 release after being Region 1
for so long.Truly a great series with very likable characters and the blossoming of Danny Devito's career.A pity then that some of the other actors seemingly faded away into near obscurity.
A must for all Cheers and even Frasier fans,as the writing and pacing
shown here lay the foundations for those shows, and many others.
Buy it,and lets hope the following seasons get a Region 2 release to!
