When first dragged by my wife to see the cinema releases of the three films, years ago, I went like a snail unwillingly but really enjoyed them. Since then, we acquired the VHS versions of the same and watched them about once annually. This extended version, however, is so much better, fleshing out some of the characters and some of the story-line.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy was once called, by a German friend of mine (who never saw it!), "poor man's Wagner" and it is true that there are elements of the "Ring of the Nibelungen" in Tolkien's epic tale (which, perhaps, was why Jewish groups apparently attacked the first of these films on release, Wagner having believed that Jews were trying to dominate the world by the money power). ... Back in 2001, when art-house director Ang Lee was put in charge of brining the Hulk to the big screen for the first time, there were a few raised eyebrows amongst film and comic book fans alike. What would the man responsible for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - and in the future would become Academy award winning with Brokeback Mountain - do with one of Marvel's best known characters? The end result was Hulk, with Eric Bana in the lead role, which despite being a critical success, only received a luke warm welcome from fans. So five years later, with an entirely new cast and crew, the angry green giants returns in a high-octane film, that's not quite a sequel, but at the same time, is not quite a reboot either.

This will probably be the shortest Amazon review I've ever written because there really isn't much to say about this terrible movie, possibly the worst Hollywood film I've ever seen. Ludicrous plot, unsympathetic characters, awful script, dreadful 'jokes'... Don't waste two hours of your life watching it as you'll regret it. If you must watch films about meteors hitting the earth try Deep Impact.

"The world has changed, I feel it in the water, I feel it in the earth, I smell it in the air...Much that once was, is lost
For none now live who remember it."
So begins the majestic prologue to the movie, The Fellowship of the Ring.
As the earth and all that is beautiful and good is threatened by a malignant evil, as `One by one,
the free lands
of Middle-Earth fell
to the power of the ring." Like the book, the movie is spellbinding and compelling in the true sense of the word, as we get to view Tolkien's Middle Earth come to life on the screen.
It is actually quite remarkable how the mythic world of middle Earth has been made so lifelike, and how intriguing it is on the big screen.
The script is brilliantly written ... Read More:

I like Sandler's comic movies as well as the next person but was astounded by his portrayal of a greiving husband and father...he truly surprised me. Think I cried, laughed and was horrified all in one sitting. I've bought this film for myself but also for people I like and know will get the message it sends. If you don't see it you'll have missed out. Pearl Jam theme is fab too!

The title says it all these movies are amazing the storyline is amazing, the special effects are out of this world, acting is superb, the battle scenes are breathtaking. Peter Jackson is a genius no one thought anyone could do this but peter jackson prooved everyone wrong. I remember seeing all of them at the cinema they were breathtaking especially the battle senes. I have all 3 films but the first i have on VHS so soon i'm gonna need to buy this. THIS FILM IS A MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!!!

The plus: The movie is pleasantly filmed in a beautiful setting of country houses in rural Italy; unconventionally overt display of sexual relationship and naturist display; true love triumphed and rewarded in the end with the joyful first-times.
The minus: flawed script, unfocused story where the journey of discovering the identity of father and resuming of youthful love is distracted to an explicit and needless anecdotes of naturist playing, love-making and sexual mind games. It is unconvincing and has little reality touch. There is also a myriad of strange yet underdeveloped characters. Directors seems could not decide on following a core storyline and instead packed the movie with large quantity of sub plots and supporting characters.

Overall: great directing, smashing play, spectacular camera work and interesting extras. The main characters demonstrated interest in the context and were `qualified' on the scene. The props and costumes looked perfect too and that is not just in my personal opinion but of a fellow historian of costumes from Moscow. Ralph Fiennes is always convincing depicting controversial villains. He looks very natural, sometimes appropriately revolting. Liv Tyler looks good too, definitely like someone you can relate your private life's worries to.
It shows a bit of Russia and a lot of emotions, it's suits Pushkin's masterpiece accordingly. Loved it.
