The Time Machine [2002]

starring: Guy Pearce, Mark Addy, Phyllida Law, Laura Kirk, Josh Stamberg
directed by: Simon Wells

October 07, 2002
This was on TV last night, and I nearly didn't watch it, due to the mixed reviews it has received. In the end, I thought I might as well, and am actually quite glad I did. Yes, the reason why the time machine gets created is clichéd and really quite unnecessary, and the story does move away from Well's novel, but I didn't really mind, to be honest, as the idea of the old world order coming to an end, due to the moon's demise, is actually quite interesting. The acting is sound across the board, with Guy Pierce and Jeremy Iron's, in a cameo on this occasion, on good form. The real star of the show is, of course, the Time Machine itself, and it's well realized, capturing the spirit of the nineteen century, with all it's brass instruments, cog ... Read More:

This is the best film about Jesus that I have ever watched.
It will take you through a roller coaster of emotions as you watch it. The actor who plays Jesus is brilliant. In one scene where he is asked if he is really the son of god, Jesus replies 'I am HE!'. Simply great. Another great scene, and there are pleanty, is when he is in a church in Jerusuleam and stands up and starts teaching the others in the church about god. Everyone should seriously watch this film, you will enjoy it emensley.

A great western, with a big cast, a good story, a very bad guy (style The Last of Mohicans or The Ulzana's raid) and a good final.
Not a masterpiece, but a very interesting movie.

Life Or Something Like It [2003]

starring: Angelina Jolie, Edward Burns, Tony Shalhoub, Christian Kane, James Gammon
directed by: Stephen Herek

I was pleasantly surprised at how good this film was. The mold might seem to be a bit cliched but I found all of the performances were very good, and there was good chemistry between the two leads. It was also in some ways quite a fresh approach to the themes of this film, mentioned by other reviewers, which made it quite compelling to watch. Despite the subject matter, the script and Jolie's warm performance made it a funny film with lots of charm; Jolie was excellent in the role and it certainly demonsrates her versatility as an actress. It's clever script successfully posed a number of questions about what's really important in life in a humourous, appealing way and it's certainly worth seeing!
