Batman [1989]

starring: Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson, Kim Basinger, Robert Wuhl, Pat Hingle
directed by: Tim Burton

September 25, 1998
A great way to indouce our first serious Batman. Not only did the Joker (Jack Nicolsen) play a superb job, but Batman (Michael Keaton) made the knight one of the most darest superhero's ever. I espacelly liked the ending to it. I know the Joker would return as we see in this years batman film Batman the dark knight. Alferd (Michael Crouch RIP)was the best alferd ever. I can't wait for Batman 3 and well done to Michael Keaton. Good Job.

Batman Returns [1992]

starring: Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Michael Gough
directed by: Tim Burton

March 29, 1999
What I extremely like about "Batman" (1989) bounces back again in "Batman Returns": schizophrenic characters (in "Batman" there were at least two super-schizophrenics - I shouldn't name them, should I? - but here there are distinctive three of them), enchanting atmosphere (the sets are beautiful, "gothically" menacing, and simply outstanding), cool acting (when I say "cool acting" I mean my absolute inability to poke finger at the characters with disrespect and contempt; quite the other way round: I do respect all the characters here, while they are never goofy, stupid, or over-sentimental), great action scenes (fighting against the hordes of clowns, great acrobatic stunts - I am especially happy with that scene where clowns are jumping onto the Xmas tree ... Baby Boom [1987]

starring: Diane Keaton, Sam Shepard, Harold Ramis, Kristina Kennedy, Michelle Kennedy
directed by: Charles Shyer

March 11, 2002
This film is one of my favourites. For many reasons but the superb performance from Diane Keaton and the gorgeous little Elizabeth are the two main ones. This film just warms your heart so much, you can't help but have a smile on your face the whole way through. I agree it's much more of a girlie film and may be considered a bit sickly sweet but some but I enjoy every moment, I can watch it again and again. Plus JC's 80s powersuits rock!

Hang 'Em High [1968]

starring: Clint Eastwood, Inger Stevens, Ed Begley, Pat Hingle, Ben Johnson
directed by: Ted Post

June 12, 2000
I decided to put up a review of this film after purchasing it from Amazon, at just under 7.00GBP.
To be honest, their cannot be many people who have not seen the movie before, although, perhaps like me, it has been quite a while. DVD special features (or lack of them) don't really concern me, and this review concentrates on the film.
Basically, Eastwood is hung in error by a posse in search of a murdering cattle rustler. Eastwood is found by a passing Marshal, while still alive. After being cleared, he takes a position as a Marshal himself. While "vengeance" is to some degree in the film, Cooper (Eastwood's character) does not actively go in search if this for most of the film.
Anyway, to the main question: satisfaction and value for money. ... Read More:

Batman Forever [1995]

starring: Val Kilmer, Tommy Lee Jones, Jim Carrey, Nicole Kidman, Chris O'Donnell
directed by: Joel Schumacher

March 29, 1999
As above. I'm referring to the 1960s TV show, not the comics. The first two Burton spectaculars, for all their grand gothicness, missed this connection totally and didn't even introduce us to Robin. So this film was a welcome addition to the series and set its own tone completely. The viewers who don't like it seem to be mostly judging it on its breakaway from the first two movies, and not on its own merits. I think the director did a grand job and the casting was perfect. Kilmer made a great Batman, showing more human vulnerability and even naivete through his caped crusader guise than the stiffer, darker, more concealed Keaton did. Lee-Jones was right as Two-Face and Carey was the real star of the show as the Riddler, all theatre and facial expressions - a great performance ... Read More:

Brewster's Millions [1985]

directed by: Walter Hill

March 07, 2005
Its what we have all thought of at one time or another, what to do with a serious vault load of cash. On a par with Stir Crazy you get the usual classic Richard Pryor and a reminder of what we lost with the death of John Candy so early in what would have been a lengthy career.

I am life long Batman fan and this film made me feel physically sick and almost brought on tears of despair. There is no redeeming features in this movie and should be deleted from existence. Thank goodness the new films have shown how to really do Batman. I feel I may have wasted my time even lowering myself to comment on this piece of trash. Just don't ever buy this film. It deserves negative stars.

The Quick And The Dead [1995]

starring: Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, Russell Crowe, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobin Bell
directed by: Sam Raimi

February 07, 2005
Despite Gene Hackman being one of my favourite actors of all time, I had avoided this western due to an aversion to Leonardo DiCaprio. So, in the end I caught it on TV....and am going to buy it.

I love westerns and overall it didn't disappoint. The characters are a little cardboard at times, but that's actually part of it's appeal. There's nothing new here and it is really a homage to everything that's gone before.

Hackman never fails to disappoint, and both his timing and the feeling of lurid darkness he brings to his character are fantastic.

Yes it's flawed, but it still manages to play with the emotions of the viewer - you end up not wanting "Herod" (Hackman) to win. The closing scenes are, disappointingly, some of the weakest in the movie. Up ... Read More:

Reviewing Hollywood Westerns is a difficult task unless you catergories them into the niche of your favourite Actor who portrayed a Cowboy in a specific movie ! or movies that you as an individual enjoyed.
There where vast numbers of absolute CLASSICs produced that I could sing their praises about: but my reviews would go on for pages.

The actor KARL MALDEN for me was the penultimate of post war Stars,
Hollywood did not know what to put this actor in next as movies go:
every thing he starred in was superb for me anyhow: thats only me talking.
His career has spanned 60 years in the industry and it covered every walk of life character "Joe public can Name"

As a Cowboy he was SUPERB in all Westerns : top of my list is NEVADA SMITH. a film I seen when ... Read More:

Batman And Robin - Special Edition [1997]

starring: George Clooney, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Uma Thurman, Alicia Silverstone, Chris O'Donnell

October 21, 2005
After 3 insanely entertaining Batman movies - Two from Tim Burton, one produced by Burton and directed by Joel Schumacher, the forth film in this mildly-canonical series throws Tim Burton out of the picture altogether.

Unfortunately, it seems Tim Burton had been an important part of modern-day Batman (before Christopher Nolan came along), putting restraint on that comic book cheese factor we all love in certain doses, because Batman & Robin loses the whole sense of ironic dark humour which kept the first three movies special and unleashes a river of cheese that the Tim Burton dam was once holding back so that we wouldn't drown.

That's not to say Tim Burton's Batman films and Batman Forever were all doom and gloom - but they had a smart way of being camp, a sort of gothic-fairytale ... Read More:
