I have to that i am not a big fan of musicals. I'm not too fond of high school musical so i didnt think this film would be my type...

But i was so wrong. It was absolutely amazing. The acting is top class by nicole and ewan and makes you feel what they are feeling. The jazzed up songs really work and just bring the whole film together. It can make you laugh and cry (literally).

My favourite part is probably the ending because it is such a beautiful representation of love and actually made me cry because of the twist in the ending. The end song "come what may" was absolutely breathtakingly sung by nicole and ewan and you feel the love they share. It gave me goosebumps but i really enjoyed it. I watch it again and again. ... This, for me, was a less spectacular Fitzcarraldo, but where the magnificent obsession in that film was triumphantly brought off by Klaus Kinski, in this film the half-crazy idea of transporting the glass church did not quite have the same plausibility, perhaps because the necessity for overland travel was by reason of the Reverend's dislike of the sea, yet he had already travelled to Australia that way, so...

This has to be the most dismal version of Sherlock Holmes' famous case I've ever witnessed. Holmes himself has been disasterously miscast. For one thing he looks nothing like Conan Doyle's detective. Not only that, but with his beating up cabbies and shooting up in public toilets he's more like an Eastenders character (it seems that having made Eastenders an unwatchable, sensationalist mess the BBC are now doing the same with Sherlock Holmes). Watson is presented as an irritating chinless wonder, and Sir Henry is just boring. The one good performance comes from Richard E Grant, who makes a superbly scheming Stapleton (why didn't they let him play Holmes? He'd have been great!) Then of course there's the hound. The film is very poor, easily the weakest in the series. It has a plot so thin it's translucent and rather than being seen as a film, it should be regarded as a rather meaningless sequence of quite ridiculous set-pieces and special effects. Dougray Scott proves here in this film once again that he quite simply cannot act, he merely leanrs words and delivers them and even Tom Cruise just doesn't seem interested. On the strength of this,if you're planning to make a ridiculous martial arts flick where story and performances just don't matter then John Woo is the director for you, otherwise please don't let this man near a film camera again!

This is a film about a plane with AI. It's kind of too repetitive, with most of the film made up of planes (CGI) going past the screen/right up to the screen really fast. It's okay but not great. It might have been better if it was 1.85:1, or if they kept the camera steadier, less extreme close-ups and the effects weren't so close to the camera all the time. A bit more of a story/variety would have been better.

As for the DVD, it's lacking any special features. It has some movie trailers (one of which - Final Fantasy 7 looks like it's the wrong aspect ratio), but no director/cast commentary. No features or anything like that.

Visually, this film is oozing with atmosphere - old, abandoned hospital wards, sweeping, isolated moors in the pouring rain - and through its visuals, it does do a good job of keeping up the tension. Which is no mean feat, as it's quite unusual as a horror movie - almost too gentle, a bit like a cross between an mild evening made-for-TV two-parter and a serious horror film. This jarrs, but that in itself isn't such a bad thing - it tends to heighten the disturbing undertones of the storyline. There's something 'not right' about it all, and even the direction adds to that sense.

Some things are quite unexpected - outbreaks of rage, sudden, unexplained death and injury - which almost seem out of place at times, amidst the ambling storyline. Again, this has an interesting effect, ... Read More:
