The Bank Job is so so as entertainment, but the most fun/pain can be had by watching the cringeworthy Saffron Burrows inexplicably given another film role to demonstrate how she is probably the worst British actress of all time.

I like Sandler's comic movies as well as the next person but was astounded by his portrayal of a greiving husband and father...he truly surprised me. Think I cried, laughed and was horrified all in one sitting. I've bought this film for myself but also for people I like and know will get the message it sends. If you don't see it you'll have missed out. Pearl Jam theme is fab too!

I remember watching this film when it came out, and was absorbed by the suspense and surprise, yet random 'deaths' that occurred throughout. In typical fashion, I lent it off a mate at school, who I'm sure we all knew one, had dad who was a bit dodgy... and had the pirate copy on VHS. It was a big talking point, and we all laughed over various parts of the film.
Unfortunately, I personally don't think the film is half as good second time round. I'm sure it's not just me now that i'm older, but it seemed the more I tried to take it all in, the less convincing it all is. Sammy L Jacksons grand killing scene is only good enough for a snigger, whereas I remember my mum jumping out of her skin originally. Even the CGI hasn't aged well, leaving the ... Read More:

If this is the version I've seen, it must be the most coy rendering of actual events I've seen. It's well known that the most significant figure in the Bletchley/Enigma project was Alan Turing. Yet I don't remember that he was ever mentioned in this film. Instead, a sweet romance was shoehorned in. Turing, we should understand, was homosexual - and was made to suffer for it, to the point of suicide. He was never honoured in his lifetime, or even until very recently, largely for that reason. This version is truly Hamlet without the prince. Come on, directors, we're all grown up now.

I found this to be an interesting idea set in a very visually rich setting, the great mixture of the decrepit alleyways and steam driven 1950s cars, hard bitten disillusioned coppers, moody lighting and underlying police state paranoia, made for an entertaining 90 mins. I agree with a couple of other reviews that the tone is a little sombre and the performances are decidedly understated but overall a good film with more than a passing nod to george orwells 1985 and underworld, but with a character all of its own, well worth watching.

Reign Over Me is essentially a buddy movie starring Don Cheadle and Adam Sandler. Alan Johnson (Cheadle) is a dentist in a stereotypical "wife & a few kids in a nice house in New York" setup. Charlie Fineman (Sandler) is in many ways not so fortunate. Sadly he lost his whole family in 9/11, they were on one of the planes that went down that day. Since then he has retreated into his own little world, refusing to acknowledge the reality of his situation or the world around him. Alan and Charlie went to dental school together and parted company for many years. Could a chance meeting in the street change their lives forever?
The movie, as you'd expect from the subject matter, contains a lot of dark moments, but each seems to be balanced out by moments of pure ... Read More:

I have to say that Dangerous Parking is my favourite novel of all time and the film does capture some of the black humour for which I keep reading the novel.
However this book deserves a film with a bigger budget. Noah's story is very much enrichened by the various exotic locations in which it occurs and I did find it very unlikely for a British magistrate to charge Noah with Dangerous Parking for being out of his gourd on highly illegal chemical stimulents!
If you're prepared to suspend your disbelief this is a very enjoyable film, well scripted and directed. Please read the book afterwards!
