This film is a true romantic comedy classic! All the characters are loveable-especially the two lead roles played by Bullock and Pullman who are both funny and believable. However the film is also successful as a result of many of the smaller comic characters from the Callaghan family and Lucy's friends (especially the cringe-worthy Joe Jr and the loveable Saul) The film is set at christmas which adds a certain magic to the story but is a great watch all year round. Full of fun and romance with a beautiful soundtrack-it is perfect night in movie for all and sure to cause a few tears!!!
Watch and fall in love...

For me, the movie itself is a nineties' classic: action, adventure and humour blended together seamlessly to provide a thoroughly enjoyable (if untaxing) two hour break from reality.
Unfortunately, this DVD release is WOEFUL. I could forgive the complete lack of extras (not even a trailer or production notes) but the picture looks like a poor transfer from VHS: it may be anamorphic, but it suffers from clear macro-blocking, colour shifts, artifacing and wholly excessive grain from the opening Warner Bros logo to the end credits. The entire disc takes up less than 3.5gb: given the complete lack of additional material, I find it perplexing that Warner Bros didn't at least use up the remaining free space to give the video a much-needed ... Loved it, loved it, loved it! It is currently on sale very cheaply, but this is a keeper! Guaranteed to take your mind off your current worries! Keanu and Sandra have fantastic on-screen chemistry - you really, really want them to get together.... but someone is killed in a road accident.... there's a very cute dog, too!! The time lapse thing is weird at first, but your get into it very quickly, and are constantly willing Sandra NOT to get stuck with the boring lawyer guy!!! Hankies at the ready, girls.....

When a 12 year old black girl is raped, beaten and almost murdered by two racist, redneck pigs, the little girl's father shoots both of them dead whilst they are being taken to trial.
He committed murder, he is as guilty as sin and nobody believes otherwise.
On the contrary in fact, the main question in this film is whether a black man should be allowed to take vengeance against whites.
Indeed, having based the defendant's entire case on the lie that he was 'temporarily insane,' the killer's attorney spells out this fact at the end of the film by asking the jury to imagine the little girl's attack and then asking "NOW IMAGINE SHE'S WHITE."
Throughout the film, the community is divided between the killer's ... Read More:

The story line is loosely based on a book by Alice Hoffman. It is more of the screen play by Robin Swicord who also did the screen play for "Matilda" (1996).
Sisters Sally Owens (Sandra Bullock) and Gillian Owens (Nicole Kidman) are brought up by their maiden aunts after their parents died. They learn of magic and its pluses and minuses by observing their aunts from a distance. They also have to overcome (if possible) the family curse that the gentlemen in their lives are distending to meat an early demise. One highlight of the movie is when we find that the other women in the village really did not distain the Owens's; is just that they have not been invited to help.
The story deviates from the book in the since that they do not even try to ... Read More:

That this film won the Oscar for best film is absurd.
Just because it had an allegedly worthy message isn't enough to make it a good film. Besides its message is asanine and its delivery appalling.
First, there is no character differentiation or depth at all. Every single character is shown to be a) completely unhappy, b) mainly due to being subject to racial prejudice, leading to c) them being racist themselves. Just in case you can't see that, every character, often on first appearance, and then again, and again, make explicit statements about being unhappy/racist/victims of racism. That such a complex issue is dealt with so superficiality cannot be excused just by the fact that Hollywood so abjectly fails to address race properly (except ... Read More:

I rarely bother to write reviews about films I don't like, preferring to celebrate those that I do. However I make an exception for this film because I think people should be warned.
Dull, cheesy, nauseous tripe. Unlikeable characters (even Sandra Bullock), no humour and zero chemistry between the leads. I have to stress that this is not a romcom, it is a tragic tale of ghastly people, the heroine is a doormat and the hero a stalker.
You would have to pay me a considerable amount of money even to watch it again, never mind give the dvd house room.
If you are of an extremely (stress extremely) sentimental disposition, you might enjoy some of it. But if you have an iota of cynicism, or like your romance light, or if you've just had ... Read More:

If the director, Mr. Yapo, has a thing for Miss Bullock, then this film certainly makes it pretty obvious. I, too, like her a lot which is why, despite the poor reviews, I wanted to watch it. She didn't disappoint but the film itself was a terror!
The move between reality and her 'premonitions' was just too confusing for me. I became annoyed when what I thought was current, turned out to be another day in her dream.
And frankly, at the end, if a car saleman ever drove a car like her husband did, then no wonder she thought he was going to die.
All-in-all, a load of old rubbish - except for Sandra, of course.

I'm not religious in any sense of the word, so my review will be based purely on the film placed in front of me, and not on any historical innacuracies and deviances from the actual story, or any religious implications in the film.
I was blown away by this film to be honest. The story, the voice acting, the animation, it was all faultless, and though the songs took a bit of getting used to (they didn't seem to have that sweet, flowing quality I was used to seeing in most cartoon musicals) the soundtrack fits the film incredibly well, with the obvious standout song of 'there can be miracles' made famous by Mariah carey and whitney Houston. One fault I did have however was the script, which at times felt slightly awkward, but the voice actors did the best with what ... Read More:

A very funny film, with a first rate cast, MISS CONGENIALITY deals with examining the value of an American institution. When I was growing up one of the yearly television events I always recalled was the "Miss America" pageant (as well as the other beauty pageant for "Miss Universe"). Watching Bert Parks' singing the "Miss America" song was on the same level as watching the Thanksgiving Day parade or the Superbowl. In fact, when Parks was fired from "Miss America" in the 1980s, the pageant lost many viewers out of sympathy with Bert.
But that dropping of Parks was an example of what the producers of the show faced in the 1980s. There had been dwindling interest and ratings for several years. Many felt the show was old fashioned ... Read More:
