originally released in 1982, this is a science fiction movie featuring harrison ford as a man who tracks down androids from outer space who have come to earth illegally. set in a permanently rainy near future city, he tracks the androids down, but may be in danger of falling for one in the process. and could it be that they are just a little more human than him?
a classic of science fiction cinema, and a landmark in many ways as it introduced a style of future vision that has been often copied. not an action flick, it's quite slow at places but it's thoughtful and makes you consider the nature of existence.
originally released with a voiceover and a tacked on happy ending there have been several amended releases over ... Read More:

Just a quick review to warn buyers that 'Ace Ventura - When Nature Calls' is cut by one minute thirty eight seconds to achieve a PG rating (As are all versions available in the UK). Several of the edgier/cruder jokes have been either reduced or removed.
If that doesn't bother you then buy this boxset without hesitation, but if you want the films completely uncut then buy the region 1 DVDs from America.

One of them must be "Blade Runner in its many varied and excellent versions. This film is what sci-fi is all about. Instead of wasting time on gratuitous blood squirting, the story is much deeper with not only a message but a question.
"Early in the 21st century, the Tyrell Corporation advanced Robot evolution into the Nexus phase - a being virtually identical to human - Known as `Replicant.'"...Replicants were used Off-world as slave labor ...Replicants were declared illegal on earth ...Special police squads - Blade Runner Units - had orders to shoot to kill ..."
This was not called execution.
It was called retirement.
The film from beginning to end is treated with an overlay of original musing by the renowned ... Read More:

To say that this film looks stunning on Blu-Ray would be an understatement!!
Right from the off you are presented with a city-scape so detailed you feel as though you could fly right in and this is 25 years old! I never saw this in the cinema when it came out but watching it in HiDef would make me go to see it if it was re-released.
This final-cut version doesn't have the Deckard voice over, but it's hard to not forget it when you watch the film, but the new editing and deletion/ isertion of some scenes makes this the best version by far.
Also if you haven't read "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep" you should have, it gives the story a new perspective.

A good morality play, as well as a great look into greed-addiction and monkey business in the stock trading, accurately portraying the barbarous, amoral and hedonic capitalism of the 1980s, which is nothing but a religion. It captures well the essence of the "new evolutionary spirit", characterized by dog-eat-dog and get-rich-quick schemes in the bull market era.
The film represents a complex study of human greediness, especially taking a dismal look at pursuit of self-interest at whatever cost. Everyone in the film is either honestly abhorrent or has numerous ulterior motives hidden behind their masks. No clear-cut protagonists but two main characters, Gordon Gekko & Bud Fox, are well-drawn and well-acted, except that Daryl Hannah is terribly miscast.

Blade Runner's 1982, 'Theatrical Cut', is a deeply human film. So: do what I do: put up with the unsubtle voice-over and end the film when Rachael and Deckard enter the elevator to escape - press STOP, then, and end it.
This 1982 version of Blade Runner - viewed like this, in my humble opinion - is a truly amazing film: brimming with humanity in a desolate, nightmare world that is sadly becoming more and more of a reality - for all of us - here on the real, awful Planet Earth, 2008.
I feel - very, very strongly - that Director Ridley Scott had the future of the world in his hands . . . but . . . NOW . . . with 'The Final Cut'. . . he has ruined it for all of us!

This film is a good mystery of an accidental death involving the Secretary of Defense that is swept under the rug and has a fine pairing of Kevin Costner and Gene Hackman. Sean Young, whose Susan Atwell is the mistress of jealous and controlling David Brice, finds herself falling for Costner's Lt. Commander Farrell and hopes for a way out of her affair with Brice but doesn't quite summon the resolve to break it off with him until he violently confronts her about spending a weekend with another man and demands to know that man's identity. Brice's Doberman-on-a-leash, Scott Pritchard, takes over at this point by orchestrating the cover-up, contaminating the crime scene, tampering with evidence to absolve Brice of any blame, and to implicate a phantom Russian mole in the young woman's accident. ... This is it: The 33 Episode long Frieza Saga, featuring Piccolo's return, Vegeta realising he is not the legendary "Super" Saiyan and Gohan coming of age, as well as tons of fighting against the seemingly invincible Frieza. The action takes place place on distant planet Namek, which is now almost devoid of life, due to events in Series Two but there are lots of scenes of King Kai's Planet with Tien, Yamcha and co (moreso than Season two happily) and Earth.
This is a very good saga, there are some great fights spread across the first two Discs as well as tons of characterisation with Vegeta. It falters slightly in Disc 3 which is 6 episodes of Frieza VS Goku, it doesn't get interesting until he begins to form the Spirit Bomb. Disc 4 sees the Spirit Bomb make a direct hit on Frieza! But ... Read More:

I must have watched this movie thirty times in one month during college! A true classic script and especially performance by Jim Carrey, with nonstop manic nonsense and madness. Filled with tons of hilarious one liners and quotables from Carrey. I think it's Carrey's funniest performance, with Liar Liar second, and The Mask third. This was him making it to the big time as a comic actor and he holds nothing back. Author of Adjust Your Brain: A Practical Theory for Maximizing Mental Health.
