New fairytales are surely dangerous territory for big film studio's to venture into. Stardust has overcome that hurdle by recruiting an 'A' list cast.
Having taken that leap of faith, a production of great merit is the result. The triumph of which must be the understated, tongue in cheek delivery by the principles, even the Americans. Robert De Niro way out of his comfort zone does a particulaly good job.
Its like a 'Princess Bride', with a big budget. And in that league as well. Enjoy.

This is a great piece of film-making, with many themes simmering and occasionally boiling over in this study of the poet's wartime years that span the bombardments of London and the tranquillity of a Welsh coastal retreat . A mature, subtle script that brings into dramatic focus the underlying tensions is well served by perfect performances. But above all the excellent visual composition of each moment, with inventive and elegant use of close-up, camera angle and lighting is a wonder and joy to behold. A very rare type of film these days - it holds the attention and stirs the emotions without abandoning artistic integrity and succumbing to manipulative, superficial shortcuts.

I really don't understand how people can be so malicious about this movie. I was hesitant about watching it as I thought it looked good, but I really wasn't a Miller fan. But having watched it, I honestly loved it. I'm not saying it couldnt be improved, because couldn't everything? But I thought Sienna, Hayden and Guy were really good, I loved the used of music in the film which helped put it in the era it belonged, costumes were great and I generally really liked it, people criticise that it blames Warhol for Edie's demise, but honestly, they weren't there and neither was I, so we can't judge, although Andy was known to be kind of manipulative, and the same people also say Guy Pearce acted him brilliantly. I'd also like to say that my two best friends ... Read More:

A young man looking for adventure and what ever comes his way breaches The Wall to find a magical kingdom. He is seduced by a beautiful woman who claims to be a captive princess. Later he finds a little gift at his doorstep. Yep the little tyke looks like its father.
Well Young Dunstan Thorn is unaware of his heritage and has a soft spot in his heart for a local girl, Victoria (Sienna Miller). He would do anything for her, even bring back a fallen star; this quest will take him to the other side of The Wall and we will go with him on the quest.
This quest reminds you of "The Walrus and The Carpenter" by Lewis Carroll, as we dive into adventure with the fallen star Yvaine (Claire Danes), a witchy woman (Michelle Pfeiffer), a flying pirate ... Read More:
I rented this film expecting from the reviews that it would be mildly diverting. In the event I found it laugh-out-loud funny: I have not laughed so much while watching a film for months if not years. And most of the time I was laughing with the film, not at it.
In more than one way this film was surprisingly similar to a film on the same subject which Bob Hope had made more than fifty years previously (Casanova's Big Night, 1954). In both cases the film is built around the same central joke, that Casanova's mere reputation as a great lover is enough to have every woman in Venice throw herself at him, including those who appear to be extremely respectable and virtuous, with precisely one exception - the woman he wants.

This is a decent enough, easy watch exploring the topic of control and gender in an entertaining fashion, a reworking of the sadly murdered Theo van Gogh film of the same name (Buscemi honours him in the credits and also with the removal van in the early part of the film). The essence of the film is how men, regardless of their own inflated opinions of their intelligence and worldliness, and, despite their better instincts, can't help but be manipulated and wooed by femmes fatales.
There are moments when this film does feel a bit too theatrical, a little over-acted, but overall, its a classic, two people in a room, character based story which underscores Buscemi's ability as a director and actor and actually boosted my opinion of Sienna Miller (albeit coming ... Read More:

This is program is hard to explain its a drama in places, a comedy in others and a soap in others. Every scene is two couples in bed discusing the events of the day. OK that's a rubbish discription but its hard. I bought the first series noing nothing about it I couldn't get over how good it was. The second is just as good. The dialouge is clever witty and the characters so well defined. Everything you'd want from a half hour of tellevison.
