Not much else I can add to the heaps of adulation & praise already mentioned in other reviews - except to say this trilogy is my favourite movie....EVER! I never get tired of watching this epic (in fact each viewing seems to reveal something new) and I'm STILL in awe and wonder at the sheer scale of the production & talent that must have gone into making this abitious project come to life. It's nigh on perfect... A classic in every sense.
PS: I can only assume that the small handful of people that somehow think these movies are 'boring'(??!) must have their heads wired differently to the rest of us....!!

"Eastern Promises" is a menacing, violent film set in the underworld of the Russian Mafia in London. The film is very visceral and doesn't balk at showing the highly unsavoury and vicious lifestyle of the East European gangsters. A young midwife (Naomi Watts) gets drawn into the Mob scene after delivering a baby for a teenage Ukrainian girl who dies in childbirth. Her search for the next of kin leads her to a Russian restaurant which is the base for three leading gangsters and her life and that of her family gets placed in jeopardy by her having read the dead girl's diary. The highlight of the film is the interplay between the three Russians with excellent performances from Vince Cassell as the "godfather"'s drunken ,unstable son and heir and Viggo Mortensen ... I truly believe that 'the Lord of the Rings' is one of the greatest stories ever told. The tale of Frodo Baggins and the ring of power continues in the second part of the trilogy, where Frodo and Sam are continuing their relentless qyest to Mordor to destory the ring, only to be joined by the sinister yet pitiable creature known as Gollum. Meanwhile, Merry & Pip try their hardest to escape from the evil orcs who captured them at the end of 'The Fellowship of the Ring', whilst gimley, Legolas and Aragorn meet a king and immediatley sense something is not right. Old characters reurn and new ones are introduced as the tale of the Ring grows closer to it's end.
The extended edition is far superior to the original, though the amount of time it takes ... Read More:

If I could, I would give this movie 100 stars. There's nothing I can really say that hasn't already been said - so I'll sum up the trilogy in a few words.

So this is it. Yet another cinematic trilogy draws to a close. Great things comes in threes : the Star Wars Trilogy. The Omen Trilogy. Indiana Jones. The Omen. The Godfather. The Matrix (er, maybe I should rethink this particular theory).
And now this. The final four hours of The Lord Of The Rings trilogy. But this isn't a trilogy, nor is it just a remake or a continuation (it's not The Lord Of The Rings 3-d : The Revenge, for example), simply the third and final part of the story.
And my god, it's long. Two hundred and ten bum-numbing minutes. That's three times as long as Toy Story. There's not even an intermission : just a constant, endless trawl of dialogue, CGI, and stuff. Endless long panning shots - Look At This! It's Big! It's Slow! It's got.... ... Read More:

This is great stuff, hugely good fun and absorbing from the get go. The script and performances are great (check out Edwin Torres' books Carlito's Way and After Hours - both the basis for this and stunning reading) and the film delivers in every way. Some fine action and pretty much iconic scenes and you have a real winner.

The LOTR triology is one of those stories that you have to watch or read at least once in your life, and as I could never get into the novels I had to settle for watching the films instead - and they were incredible. The conclusion to the story does not let down it's previous installments and is more than a worthy ending for the trilogy. These are fantastic films that should be held up as an example of just how moving films can be if made correctly. A story I will always come back to. Incredible.

` A History of Violence' is about a family man named Tom Stall (Viggo Mortensen) who owns a diner in a small town in Indiana. Everything seems quiet and peaceful in his life until one day when two men come into his restaurant and threaten the staff and customers with a gun. Tom disarms the men and kills them both in defence, becoming a local hero in his town. Days later he is then approached by a man named Carl Fogarty (Ed Harris) who begins to ask him questions about his past, a different life in Philadelphia and starts to harass him and his family.
I love some of David Cronenberg's earlier films such as The Fly, Scanners and The Dead Zone, and A History of Violence is a great addition to these classics. The story is fairly slow going and does have a lot of focus on the characters rather than just ... Read More:
