I don't think this is a technically brilliant film. I don't think it deserved the best picture Oscar ahead of either The Graduate or Bonnie and Clyde. (Nor did anyone else at the time. Personally I think the latter film is the best product of the three, although The Graduate is easily my favourite.) I think there must have been a bit of politics being played here by the Academy, in showcasing a film with just the right message for its time. It has good things in it, the best being Rod Steiger in an 'I'll show you what real acting is' kind of mood. Really, this was set up to be Poitier's film, but for me he doesn't get a look in, Mr. Steiger is in such hot form: One of the all time great movie performances, this. Pretty good photography, very ... Read More:

Great works of art are very much of their time, but have a relevance and impact long afterwards - and this is a great work of art. A simple story - disfunctional couple on the run, but told with great artistry and 'truth', with actors burdgeoning into great careers, and with much to say about US society, disaffection, and the cult of celebrity killers.
The cinematography is groundbreakingly beautiful, and surely the use of music has never been bettered - this movie sears itself into your brain.
Enthralling, gripping, funny, brutal (death is sad and real and pitiful), and simply a benchmark of US film-making that might never be bettered.
How many DVDs do you watch right through the end credits? I found myself doing ... Read More:

I have a region 1 version of this film and it last 136 minutes. I have never tried to read between the lines on any film, it should be about enjoyment rather than how good the director is or how the character's are defined.
If you enjoy a good western then you will probably enjoy this one, excellent performances from Harris and Heston, with good support from Coburn, a reasonable plot and the usual femalle interest.
A film I have watched many times and have always enjoyed.

This, as so many have said before me, is a cult gem and the best of the genre by a long, long chalk. Wonderfully understated, except by Oates, the car is the real star, a no nonsense beast that is so cool it doesn't dress up whatever the occasion and like the heroes, Taylor and Wilson, exists for only one thing.....speed. Forget the sticky bun kids of the various two Fs and their toys, this is the Daddy of them all, a big block Chevy, primer coated, mean as a mother in law, built to street race and giving a taste of the life more realistically than any other movie I ever saw. Even the original Vanishing Point pales to insignificance by comparison. The real deal.

all western fans should own this set just to listen to the music .the first film is probably the most famous cowboy film ever made with many great actors staring in it and is unforgettable.the 3 follow ons get weaker and weaker but are still quite watchable and enjoyable.

Simply excellent. I loved most of Peckinpah's work. I do not wish to judge his character but most of his films (THE GETAWAY, PAT GARRETT & BILLY THE KID, STRAW DOGS and this one) are certainly some of the best films in movie history. Warren Oates on his way to ruin was an excellent choice for the lead role. Great directing - as usual - great acting and a sinister dark humor throughout the film make BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA a great neo-westen.

"Its time we started thinking beyond our guns, those days are closing fast," muses Pike (William Holden) shortly after the bloodiest shootout in cinema history. The shootout was the result of a botched robbery attempt, and it soon descended into chaotic carnage where Pike and his titular Wild Bunch are forced to shoot their way out of an ambush, killing a good portion of civilians in the crossfire.
This classic movie was released in 1969 in response to the hugely successful gay western `Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid'. Butch Cassidy's huge success at the box office essentially green lit the way for Sam Peckinpah's vision of a changing wild west in The Wild Bunch.
It would be a travesty to think about The Wild Bunch in terms of its violence; it is a much better movie than ... Read More:

But not as good as I thought it was going to be.
This movie was released 27 years ago!, so let's call it early Murray. I'm a big Bill Murray fan, and although it shows some of his talent, he's done better since.
The movie reminded me of Police academy. A bunch of misfit cadets, a nutty, loser commanding officer and a decorated NCO where despite the efforts of the latter, the misfits triumph in the end.
Worth a watch. You might get more out of it than I did.
The movie has a 15 rating and there are a few scences of nudity.

Playing a similar role to his character in easy rider Peter Fonda is acted of the screen by the excellent Warren Oates. The story of devil worshippers chasing the hapless Fonda and Oates in their massive camper van really has its moments. Once the film gets moving it presents some excellent scenes of paranoia notably at the camper park and a scene in a country and western bar. The director Jack Starret plays an amiable gas station attendant and is also the head satanist. the climactic scene where all appears well is right up there with Carrie. Not a classic by any manner of means but well worth a look.
