For fans of Indy this film really rips the heart out of the franchise. To give a fair review without spoilers is nigh on impossible but the ending is so lazy and ludicrously out of sync with what the franchise is about it suspends belief. The minor redeeming feature is Ford's command of the lead character but despite his best efforts the hideous work of Lucas and Spielberg make the final result a dire, dire effort.

p.s. For those Indy fans out there who need consoling I recommend the recently aired episode of South Park, The China Probrem, to cheer you up.

I'd been wanting to see this film for ages but never got around to it, i bought it about a week and a half ago, looking at the reverse i was schoked at the fact that it was 3 hours long! I have a really short attention span, and it was also in black and white, which i thought would put me off. Usually i watch films and work through them or talk to friends nose around on teh computer etc but after watching about half an hour of this film i couldn't tear myself away, i completely neglected my laptop for the next two and a half hours! it didn't get boring at all and i didn't even notice it wasn't in black and white.All though we all know of the tragic events of the holocaust watching it unfold in front of you through spielberg's magic doesn't fail to ... Whatever you think of the story, the fact that one man is seen as so important that a relatively dangerous rescue mission is undertaken , involving ultimate sacrifice, the giving of ones life, to achieve the result. Surely this ist he greatest story ever told, that of Aslan in Narnia too, and Jesus Christ dying on a cross that an individual, namely YOU, can be brought home to safety. Tom Hanks' character, Saptain Miller does this ultimately in the film, and others do so along the way.

Spielberg making money out of making children cry isn't my idea of a good film. The special effects are terrible, even when it came out they looked ropey, but again it serves to fool children. I couldn't be happy about making my money from making kids cry, and then be able to sleep at night like Spielberg does. ET himself is a plasticy Mother Teresa without lippy on, Elliot is annoying as characters go and the whole alien thing is silly. Fire in the Sky is a better alien film than this.

The reason that these movies are so popular is because there is a little bit of Indiana Jones in all of us. We enjoy the mystery of cloak and dagger, the excitement of exploring new places, the fun of discovery and the adventurous spirit that is deep rooted in all of us.

George Lucas and Stephen Spielberg were able to tap into their own psyche as boys and have done an exceptional job of bringing our dreams to life in the form of a character appropriately named...Indiana Jones!

This film is about the ridiculous situation of a big fish attacking people at the beach and a policeman killing the fish. A bit like a psycho Captin Birdseye only without a beard. The big fish is a rubber one that moves terribly and the fake ocean scenes are as bad as the fish! Ive swam in the sea before and the only thing that got me was a jellyfish. I cannot believe that films like this were made. Thank the lord for sensible films about fish like Piranha or Killerfish, believable approaches to the perils of fish.

Also, why do they have to have a pirate in the story? Or go down in a cage? If a big fish was swimming about you just wouldnt go into the water after it. This film is silly.

Special effects should be convincing, even when this was made, but relying on an upside down turned car and mashed tatties and dodgy miniatures spoils the story. As if aliens are going to travel all this way after kidnapping pilots and sailors just to have a jam session on top of a mountain with a hippy scientist and his organ. Like Jean Michel Jarre and ET having a duet. Its silly. Aliens also are supposed to be green and not like the ones here. Aliens are hardly going to visit us if this is what we think of them. Unless they are the For Mash Get Smash aliens which is where the mashed potato could actually mean something.

I just watched this movie, I was just so amazed with Bale, how beautifully he carried that movie on his shoulders with a very stunning performance!! It's a very great and moving movie, and one shouldn't think that it's as old as it is! Well, really all I can say is that this one to watch!
