I studied this historical period in depth and most evidence suggests, (and it is widely accepted), that Henry VIII was in fact a handsome young man in his earlier years. He was tall and solid, a bit unlike the typical stature of the time, one look at his suit of armour can tell us that. They image we usually see of Henry as a tall, large, bearded man was in his later years. Certainly around the time of his first marriage to Catherine, he was an athletic young man. Even after the end of his marriage to Jane Seymour, after her death, he was widely considered to be Europe's ultimate bachelor in a sense!

The Tudors is the best period drama series I have seen on the TV in years! so much so that I bought series 1 and have ordered series 2. I thought series 1 & 2 were both brilliant and now I can't wait to see series 3. I am fasinated by the Tudor years and know alot about them. As The Tudor series progresses, yes there are inaccuracies, but for those compaining about it............ it is SUPPOSED to be a drama series, not an actual history lesson!

The acting is excellent, the costumes are amazing and the backdrops, props and scenery are all as one would imagine England to have been like at that time.

And finally, Jonathan Rhys Meyers is not only brilliant at playing King Henry, he is gorgeous too so thank goodness the producers ... Read More:

I do not know the true history this movie is based upon, I like most viewers, am aware of Ghengis Khan and that he was a great conquerer. Beyond the fact that his name was temudgin I knew nothing else of his story. So I find myself impressed that he wasn't portrayed as a great speech maker or the strongest warrior ever etc. The film shows him as clever but quiet and toughtful. I do not know if this is an accurate representation of him but it is interesting none the less. The acting is very good and because there is no one famous they seem more convincing.

I'd been wanting to see this film for ages but never got around to it, i bought it about a week and a half ago, looking at the reverse i was schoked at the fact that it was 3 hours long! I have a really short attention span, and it was also in black and white, which i thought would put me off. Usually i watch films and work through them or talk to friends nose around on teh computer etc but after watching about half an hour of this film i couldn't tear myself away, i completely neglected my laptop for the next two and a half hours! it didn't get boring at all and i didn't even notice it wasn't in black and white.All though we all know of the tragic events of the holocaust watching it unfold in front of you through spielberg's magic doesn't fail to shock and affect. I first saw this film in the cinema, and am so glad it is now out on DVD. As a big fan of war films, Female Agents is easily the best of this year, with cracking performances from all the main leads, especially Sophie Marceau.

Set in 1944 during World War II, the film tells the story of four women resistance fighter given the mission to rescue a British geologist. Based on a true story, the action rarely lets up with a fantastic script complemented by gorgeous cinematography. Watch out for the subway scene - it's a classic!

truly magnificent movie, picture and sound quality excellent, but don't be surprised as i was to see english language on the box, it's not it's subbed, but for me took nothing away from the film.......fantastic

"A Man For All Seasons" is one of my all time favourite films. It is absolutely faultless and could not possibly be bettered. I have seen it so many times I think I know the whole script by heart! Every actor and actress are perfect for their part.I could mention them all but then I would go on for ages so I will confine myself to just a few comments. There will never be a better cameo performance on screen of Henry VIII to match that of Robert Shaw; Wendy Hillier's leavetaking of her husband in the Tower brings tears to the eyes every time; Orson Welles is just awesome as Cardinal Wolsey; and Paul Scofield, of course, is matchless in every way. "Utopia" by the way IS mentioned - in the very first scene!
Buy this and watch again and again - there is something to reward you every time. ... Read More:

I simply cannot understand how one calls a set of DVDs a "30th Anniversary Collector's Edition" that comes with no extras whatsoever. Not even having put subtitles onto it is in my eyes a disgrace. Taking into account the importance of the Mini-Series it's just apalling. Otherwise it's a landmark TV-Series that deserves to have treated better.

And the story continues--from the chaos following Caesar's assassination, Mark Antony's inept rule, the intrigues of Brutus and Cassius, and the rise of Octavian..this series is just as good as the first one, and every bit as gripping and visually magnificent. Superbly acted and produced, both series 1 and 2 are just gems. I feel bereft now I've watched the whole thing.
If only they could keep going! But maybe they don't want to tread on I, Claudius' toes, which takes us into Octavian's(Augustus')long reign and beyond?
