i used to own the individual season box sets until i got this one. this set contains all the special features and even the same artwork for the dvd's and the same menu graphics of the individual seasons. so essentially you're getting the same stuff for the fraction of the price and better packaged, like the atlantis sets. awsome

With this series we are fresh off the regeneration from the previous Doctor played by Christopher Eccleston and now David Tennant has a lot to live up to; he does it and he does it with style. Billie Piper comes back as the magical Rose Tyler and we are given a series where she not only has to handle the notion of a different looking Doctor, but she has to handle the fact that she's falling in love with him and we're given hints that he's falling in love with Rose.
Episode 1: New Earth: In the year 5 Billion and 23 the Doctor takes Rose to the new home of the human race, simply called New Earth and he takes her to the aptly named New New York. There the Doctor meets up with an old friend the Face of Boe but he stumbles upon a secret ... Read More:

Almost perfection.
The superb Xmas episode with a good ending and the two doctors is briliant.
The series starts off like the previous series with an episode almost made for cbbc but then improves with Pompeii and the Ood. The sontorans are good with the Doctor's daughter (now weirdly David Tenant's girlfriend)with a plot twist.
The Agatha Christie episode is differently paced before Steven Moffatt's writing is to the fore in Silence in the Library two parter.
The errily Midnight is followed by the best episode in Turn Left and the return of everybody it seems with amazing ending with the Doctor shot by the lone Darlek (didnt he have any mates).
Journeys End brings everybody's storyline to the ... Read More:

TRIAL OF A TIME LORD is never going to win awards as the greatest piece of television ever made, and certainly when you realise it was supposed to be a relaunch of the show after an enforced absence, you tend to find that it's essentially much the same as before. Having had the VHS for a while and not having watched it often, I didn't regard this as an essential purchase, and wouldn't see it as the best way to be introduced to old-style DOCTOR WHO, but ultimately it was a very enjoyable purchase as TRIAL OF A TIME LORD has simply never looked better. The picture and sound quality are so much better than the VHS release, and the excellent extras package gives a fair and honest appraisal of the series as it was at the time, and you are left with the sense of professional people ... Right, this is so exiting, Turn Left begins brilliant with an intresting alien planet, Donna being a companion very obvious with her an the dr simply visitingand having fun, then Donna is made to change her life and never meet the dr, then she meets rose who helps make her meet the dr and put it allrigt. Now this episode is great, I love Catherine Tates performance, so emotional, it shows that she is not all Am I Bovvered?, Run for your lives children were all going to die! and I aint bovvered. Shes more than comedy. As for Rose, what the, I mean no, her erformance was so, good, but she hardly did anytrhing,I lieks the idea of the dr being dead and the aliens doing stuff to earth, not that i want him dead, its just that it shows how much we need him. This episode is emotional, very emotional. ... Read More:

series 1 started off everything(makes sense)but seriously if it weren't for the success of this series then the show wouldn't have survived...thanks to the amazing writers and crew behind it and some fab actors.
eppy guide-
Rose-4/5-the start...and what a great start it is too...Billie Piper CAN act as the great Rose Tyler and the Autons are very creepy.
The end of the world-4/5-very good all round episode tht boasts some amazing visuals.
the unquiet dead-4/5-very scary episode with some terrifying zombies...and the doctor meets Charles Dickens.
Aliens of London-2/5-a decent episode but not fantastical...contains the infamous big ben crash scene...but not much else.
World War Three-2.5/5-slightly better but the Slitheen aren't the greatest looking aliens i have seen and look ... Read More:

By season 10..SG1 was looking tired. The Ori storyline was uninteresting and they prove yet again in this last series that they are nowhere near as interesting as the gou'ld. The stories were looking lame and again not a patch on stuff from series 1-6. The last episode "unending" isnt all that great either and wasnt a great episode for this once great show to finish on. Its not all bad..its still reasonable in places but i'm glad they finally decided to cancel the show as 10 seasons is a lot and any show that goes that long struggles. Check out the first few seasons on dvd as they are the best.
I have always liked Peter Davison's Doctor so to go back and see where it all began for him was certainly an interesting experience. Four To Doomsday is most definitely a mixed bag, but I found much to enjoy in this story, even if it did come in inconsistent bursts.
In terms of the look and feel of the episode, with a new Doctor and a new season, the BBC was obviously keen to impress and as a result we are treated to some very nicely designed sets. Four To Doomsday sees the show at its most Sci-Fi, ideas of technology and intelligence forming a crucial part of the story. But as nice as these elements are, certainly from the first part of this serial you get an overriding feeling that there's just something slightly lacking when compared to other stories of the era.

Generally this adventure has much to recommend it and does, indeed provide an interesting record of the time in which it was made. I came away glad to have watched it but not clear I would watch it again any time soon. Many things grated with me, in no particular order:
* WOTAN uses the name Doctor Who explicitly several times which I found grating
* The change of companions is abrupt and the story ends just as the new companions enter the TARDIS meaning you miss the trademark 'bigger on the inside' line
* The TARDIS prop is looking very tatty (though the last time I saw the Tennant TARDIS it had a hole in!)
* The last episode has a huge battle scene with War Machines vs. soldiers which is much too long and somewhat too staged
